The house got called to the scene of a nasty car accident. Some trucker’s cargo had crashed and it was hanging over a bridge quite precariously. The driver also went over the edge. He was hanging off of a sign when the firefighters found him. They lowed Severide to get him and there was almost a disaster with the cargo because another house hadn’t properly secured the area. Kidd ended up having to do it herself. It brought up close and personal with the other team’s lieutenant. She found out that the guy was moving. They were going to be an opening for a lieutenant position and Kidd wants to go after it.

Kidd was on track to becoming a lieutenant of her own house when Girls On Fire took her away. She got so wrapped up in making the program successful that she let go of her dream of moving up in the world and it took Kylie reminding her that made her remember her original goals. Kidd went to Boden. She told him that she was interested in the opening. She knows that the guys from House 72 were a bit foolish. Slow up on the uptake. They were basically terrible at the job and yet she wanted the opportunity to manage them because she thought she could help them turn their luck around. And the house does need someone so why couldn’t it be Kidd?

Kidd’s offer was tempting. Boden has watched her career rise and he thought she would be great for the job, but he just couldn’t hand it to her and so Boden needed to think about it while Kidd needed to break the news to Severide. If she got the job it would be different houses and different shifts. They might not see each other as often. It was going to be hard to maintain things and it was going to work. Only Kidd really wants this. Severide saw that and he offered his support. He’s willing to back her up in everything she sets her mind to. Kidd later heard back from Boden that the job was hers if she truly wanted it. He just has to go through the paperwork.

Kidd’s impeding promotion was something she earned. It’s not like she slept with the boss to get it and unfortunately that couldn’t be said about everyone. Brett and Violet’s ambulance had a broken heater. Something that Violet told Hawkins about. Hawkins then put in the paperwork to make sure their machine was ahead of the line and they displaced some firefighters who needed their truck fixed. It hadn’t looked good what Hawkins. Once it came out that he was sleeping with Violet, it’s going to look like he did her favor by cutting the line and so Brett said it was going to blowback on them. She told Violet to talk to the boyfriend about appearances.

It won’t look good once news of the relationship gets out. Violet said she would talk to Hawkins and she did intend to talk to him, but then she just kept forgetting what with everything else happening. She and Brett were called to a warehouse where they met a man who cut himself with a chainsaw. He was masking an ice sculpture for a wedding. He even asked that the sculpture could be with them in the ambulance. So, they had to cut the heat. They also had to open windows and so that was what they get for jumping the line. And speaking of line jumpers, Gallo tried to do the same for a class by dropping Severide’s name.

It didn’t work. It also got back to Severide and he took Gallo to the task. He told Gallo there’s a fine line between being ready and being a pain in the backside. Gallo didn’t want to cross that line. He learned his lesson about trying to push his way into places where he wasn’t invited. He even apologized to Violet later for what he said to her. She forgave him because they’re still friends at the end of the day. Violet also talked to Hawkins. She told him that he couldn’t be helping her like that again just because they were sleeping together and he agreed to do it, but they were just about to have sex and so he might have forgotten about that later.

Gallo meanwhile got into the class that he wanted. He had to get caught up on the material and so Severide trained him so that he could join the class without missing any of the material. But Kidd also got good news. Pelham was going to take the job at the new house. He was leaving his position at 51 and that it meant it was free for Kidd to get the job she always wanted. His’s. Kidd and Severide will get to stay in the same house and be on the same shift. This change was better for her and so she thanked Pelham for what he did. He wasn’t there long, but he realized there was something special about 51 and he was going to take what he learned to 72.

And Hermann got to meet up with Stephanides, but this time Stephanides didn’t create problems for him.

THE END
