Tonight’s CSI: Vegas episode begins with a car pulling up to a home and 3 masked gunmen getting out. They go into the bedroom of a man, then we see the same man and his family on their knees in the living room. They grab the father and drag him to his safe. Then we hear shots, a woman is pregnant and we see her jump out of the window, they shoot her on the sidewalk.
Catherine and Joshua are on the scene, the pregnant woman is dying but the baby is still alive, they are in an ambulance.
Joshua secures the entry, Catherine goes inside and gives an order that nobody else goes inside.
Catherine comes out and announces to the team, a homicide/home invasion, everyone deceased inside, gloves up, stuff their kits, and call their loved ones, telling them not to wait up, this is going to be a long one.
Catherine teams up with Penny to do the rough stuff. Penny pauses to look at the family photos. Their family still has their hands tied behind their backs. The pregnant woman in the ambulance was actually the daughter. Catherine looks over at Penny, who looks like she is going to be sick. Catherine tells her to take a minute.
Catherine goes into the bedroom, the safe is open and it is empty. The father is on the floor, face down, hands tied, dead.
Penny goes outside and she continues to be sick, she bends down into the bushes, and then she sees something. Two crumpled pieces of paper, and puts them into evidence. Joshua is outside too and he looks up and sees that across the street the neighbors have a surveillance camera. Inside the house, there is a handprint on the wall, and Catherine gets it cut out.
Catherine thinks somebody wanted the Geice family dead, and this is a different kind of kill, an overkill.
Catherine is at the hospital, the baby is alive and well. Mary from Child Protection Services meets with Catherine who says she needs to get a buccal swab from the infant. Mary says no way, she is responsible for the child who is struggling to survive, and until she is stable, it is not happening.
Penny can’t do it, she is freaking out and tells Catherine that she is losing it. Catherine tells her to put out her hands, they are shaking and she tells Penny that she is human. The best thing to do is work the case, so it doesn’t work for you.
Joshua watches the surveillance video, the gunmen had a scuffle outside when one of them hesitated in shooting the pregnant woman. During that scuffle, one hits the other and on video, you can see that a tooth fell out when he got it. Joshua rushes back to the scene to look for that tooth.
DNA is taken from the hand print, it belongs to the pregnant woman, but she was shot outside.
Penny found some random evidence in the vacuum, she shows it to Catherine and she says she doesn’t think it is random. Catherine doesn’t want her to go down a rabbit hole.
The random evidence has the same DNA as the bloody handprint. Penny thinks it is a cry for help, the person wants to get caught.
In the video, the killers didn’t look experienced, like they knew how to use the weapons. There was a shell casing left, it belongs to Edward Allen. They bring him in and he says he didn’t do anything. He says he sold three shotguns on the street. And, he is on house arrest, he couldn’t have done it.
Max is back and she has Catherine’s sample of the baby. Edward Allen is not the father and gets this, the Giece daughter who was carrying her is not the mother. She is either a surrogate or gestational carrier. The DNA from the tooth is a woman and it matched the DNA from the baby.
Serena advises the team that shots were fired in Henderson, the entire family is dead, and four bodies are on the way to the morgue. The entire family was zip-tied, like the Giece family. One of the bodies is the killer, a woman. The question is, who killed the killer?
At the second house, the same type of handprint is on the wall.
Catherine takes some time off, on Max’s insistence, to meet with her daughter. It doesn’t go well.
Joshua notices that in one of the Giece family photos there is a guy standing behind the pregnant daughter. They bring him in and his name is Justin Einstein. His parents were killed at the second house. He admits to being the father of the baby. He says Julia approached him about having a baby. Catherine tells him that Julia died at the scene, and the baby is fighting for her life in the hospital. He was the sperm donor, Lucia Marshman donated her eggs, and Julia just carried the baby. The woman killer that was killed, was not the baby’s mother Lucia, it is one of her sisters, they were fraternal triplets. He gives Catherine Lucia’s address. When they arrive there, Lucia has another woman sitting in a chair, zip-tied, Lucia has a rifle pointed at her.
Catherine tells the team to leave, she wants to handle Lucia on her own. Catherine puts her phone down and there is a photo of the baby on it. The woman in the chair is her sister. It was the older sister that shot everyone, they were only supposed to do a money grab. Catherine uses her story with her daughter to get closer to Lucia, to show that they can relate to each other. Lucia says she didn’t save Julia, she didn’t save her baby and Catherine can’t save her. Just as Lucia is about to shoot her sister, Catherine jumps her. It is over. Catherine has Lucia’s hand tied behind her back, but she takes her out with her arm around her. Max asks Catherine if she is ok, and she says yes. Max tells her the baby is now stable and accepting visitors.
Max goes to see Penny, and she tells her that she knows this one was rough for her, but she did well. Catherine goes to see the baby in the hospital, and at the same time she receives a text from her daughter that says I love you.
THE END!
