On tonight’s DWTS Season 31 episode 1 “Premiere 2022,” as per the Disney+ synopsis, “Dancing with the Stars” is the hit series hosted by supermodel and businesswoman Tyra Banks and actor and television personality Alfonso Ribeiro in which celebrities are paired with trained ballroom dancers to compete in themed choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, including Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough.”

Tonight’s episode begins with host Tyra Banks welcoming everyone to the premiere and her co-host Alfonso Ribeiro and he is thrilled to be back in the ballroom.

There are 16 incredible stars joining the pros this season. This is the first live streaming series on Disney Plus, and anything can happen. The stars choose their songs tonight.

Jordin & Brandon are first, she is a former winner of American Idol. The two will be dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” by Whitney Houston because they were friends.

Judges Comments: Len: “It was clean, it was clear, it was precise, no gimmicks and special things, it was a fantastic job.” Bruno: “I long to dance with you, all the audience longs as well. You started the show with a sparkling performance. You got the foot placement right, but not all the way through.” Derek: “You had an amazing presence, freedom. Work on your feet, but that split, I saw that, let’s go. That’s fantastic.” Carrie Ann: “Jordan, that was fabulous. I was so excited about season 31, you did not disappoint. It was great, great job.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 6, Derek 6, Bruno 7 = 26/40

Sam & Cheryl are next and she joked about his doing the show ten years ago, he is a meteorologist on Good Morning America. The two will be dancing the Foxtrot to “Hold Me Closer,” by Elton John & Britney Spears.

Judges Comments: Len: “You had such a sunny disposition, but a few dark clouds appeared due to technique. But in week one, you did a fabulous job.” Bruno: “The forecast is good, you were poised and elegant, easy to watch. For a first performance, very good.” Derek: “It’s amazing to think this partnership is ten years in the making. Foxtrot is difficult, there were timing issues, but great first dance.” Carrie Ann: “That was so tender and sweet. I could tell you were having a real-life moment.”

Heidi & Artem and it has never been done before that mom and daughter are both doing DWTS, both are social media personalities. The duo is dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “Lady Marmalade,” by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink.

Judges Comments: Len: “You danced that with so much style, well done, great job.” Bruno: “A red hot mama, carry on like this and everything is coming up with roses. You have everything at your disposal, put all the energy and thought into every step.” Derek: “I am just curious who dad is going to vote for. So much potential.” Carrie Ann: “Thank you for showing that dance can be done together with the family. That was amazing, keep your confidence.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 6, Len: 6, Derek 6, Bruno 6 = 24/40

Daniel & Britt are up, he is fully deaf and has been that way since he was born, he is an actor, probably best known for his appearance in CODA. They are dancing the Tango to “Barbra Streisand,” by Duck Sauce.

Judges Comments: Len: “Your frame was good, it was sharp, there was plenty of attack and I can’t wait for you to develop as the show goes on.” Bruno: “If Streisand was watching she would be very pleased and so am I. Your lines are beautiful, it is all there, you can do anything you want.” Derek: “You can tell you had an awareness of your body, but you could move around more. Very impressive.” Carrie Ann: “That was amazing, you are such a leading man. The lines were gorgeous and stunning.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 6, Derek 7, Bruno 7 = 27/40

Jesse & Alan are up, she is a country star and had been watching as a family for as long as she can remember. They are dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “Sweet Home Alabama,” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Judges Comments: Len: “I like that you came out and sold it. The performance level was high but you need get stronger leg action.” Bruno: “That was racier than the Kentucky Derby. It all comes from the feet and leg and we lost it.” Derek: “Every leg should be straight, keep it more compact. Well done.” Carrie Ann: “I love that you are a go-getter. Finish the movement and allow a little more.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 5, Len: 5, Derek 5, Bruno 5 = 20/40

Teresa & Pasha are next, she is from TRONJ and she is doing the show so people can see the real her. They are dancing the Tango to “We Found Love,” by Rihanna & Calvin Harris.

Judges Comments: Len: “You lost focus in the middle and became brittle. Work on stronger legs and attack. Well done.” Bruno: “All that fire and passion, use it when you dance. Every movement has to have an intention, you cannot step into a dance.” Derek: “Well done. Keep your focus and keep your frame wide. Well done.” Carrie Ann: “All that drama you have, that drama in your soul, take up space, don’t go inwards and look at us.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 5, Len: 5, Derek 5, Bruno 5 = 20/40

Wayne & Witney are next and she is so shocked that he is on the show. He says his grandmother who just left him, loved the show and he is doing it to make her proud. They are dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “She’s A Bad Mama Jama,” by Carl Carlton.

Judges Comments: Len: “The casual, cool approach. Don’t overdo it. That was the most watchable dance of the night so far.” Bruno: “Welcome to Wayne’s Dance World, performance level to the roof. You’ve got it and know what to do with it. Make sure we can recognize the dance through.” Derek: “That intro, love that. You are an iconic performer, just find a balance between charisma and technique.” Carrie Ann: “You are a ballroom dancer, you ripped off that shirt. When you blend the styled, smooth it out.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 7, Derek 7, Bruno 8 = 29/40

Cheryl & Louis are up, she has done it all, she was in Charlie’s Angels, she is 71 and says she is not done with life. They are dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “Got To Give It Up,” by Marvin Gaye.

Judges Comments:

Len: “Nice and easy, lovely chemistry, could have had a little more projection, get out there and sell it.” Bruno: “You are still a radiant angel. That was great, release the devil and let it come out a little more.” Derek: “I really enjoyed that, I can’t wait for you to do more ballroom dancing. Great first dance.” Carrie Ann: “You have swagger, you were flirtatious. That routine was a little too simple for you, there is so much more, your focus was there.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 6, Len: 5, Derek 5, Bruno 5 = 21/40

Vinny and Koko are next, this is her first time as a pro, he is from Jersey Shore. They are dancing the Salsa to “Titi Me Pregunto,” by Bad Bunny.

Judges Comments: Len: “I don’t get it, out of all the dances, this is a club dance and you didn’t show me that, it was rough.” Bruno: “This is different than the Chippendales. The timing was really out in many sections. Work on it, you will be much better next time.” Derek: “Koko, welcome. We didn’t see a lot of rotation and rhythm, you got ahead of yourself.” Carrie Ann: “You have a presence, but you let her do all the work. I want to see you do more.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 4, Len: 4, Derek 5, Bruno 4 = 17/40

Drag queen superstar Shangela and Gleb are next and she is the first drag queen star on Dancing With The Stars. They will dancing the Salsa to “When I Grow Up,” by The Pussycat Dolls.

Judges Comments: Len: “There was no holding back, you came out and sold it. These people know what they are watching, the reaction was fantastic, well done.” Bruno: “So great, so intoxicating, you had everyone going. You used Gleb as a prop, you were totally in charge.” Derek: “It was amazing to have our first drag star on the show. I wanted to get out there and dance with you, well done.” Carrie Ann: “You just changed the audience’s mood, thank you for being fierce and being all that you are.

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 7, Derek 7, Bruno 7 = 28/40

Trevor is an actor, best known for 90210 and he is partnering with Emma, his biggest fear is dancing. They are dancing the Quickstep to “Dancing With Myself,” by Billy Idol.

Judges Comments: Len: “You lacked control it was manic. Calm down and give us more finesse.” Bruno: “What a ride, I am breathless. A lot of content, refine.” Derek: “Well done. Great job brother.” Carrie Ann: “You are afraid of dancing and you get one of the hardest dances. You were non-stop. Don’t be afraid of dancing, you can dance.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 5, Len: 5, Derek 5, Bruno 6 = 21/40

Gabby from the Bachelorette is next with Val, and she says it is a dream come true. They are dancing the Jive to “As It Was,” by Harry Styles.

Judges Comments: Len: “It was great.” Bruno: “First Jive, first class.” Derek: “It was the best dance of the night, so sharp, the rotation was off the hook.” Carrie Ann: “That was amazing, your legs are incredible. The resistance between the partnership was great.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 7, Derek 7, Bruno 7 = 28/40

Joseph is a bodybuilder, his father is Arnold Schwarzenegger and his partner is Daniella are dancing the Jive to “Pump It,” by Black Eyed Peas.

Judges Comments: Len: “I like the energy, it was full on. Work on your feet, you have to point your toes more.” Bruno: “Impressive, we all get bicep envy. You’ll be back.” Derek: “I really enjoyed it, you have an amazing presence and you had good intentions, that opening one was so slick.” Carrie Ann: “You are fascinating to watch, you are in good hands.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 6, Len: 5, Derek 6, Bruno 6 = 23/40

Jason is most known for his acting on Sex and The City, he is partnered with Peta and they will be dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “Get Lucky,” by Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, and Nile Rodgers.

Judges Comments: Len: “It was a very disappointing performance. No stepping up on the heel, it is what it is.” Bruno: “Don’t count out loud, that kills the illusion.” Derek: “This is all about the toe lead, there were timing issues, but it can only get better.” Carrie Ann: “Breath, that is what is missing. Relax, that is what we need more of.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 5, Len: 4, Derek 4, Bruno 5 = 18/40

Selma is an actor who was diagnosed with MS in 2018, she has movement and balance issues. She is partnering with Sasha and she wants to perform. They are dancing Viennese Waltz to “The Time Of My Life,” by David Cook.

Judges Comments: Len: “You came out and danced beautifully, I loved it.” Bruno: “So good to see you here, you really created magic tonight, it was gorgeous. A Disney princess came alive.” Derek: “You are a perfect example of a person that doesn’t let their illness define you. It should have been longer, it was so beautiful.” Carrie Ann: “You dance like a true artist. Seeing you come out here with your circumstances and making everyone see that you are able, it is so powerful.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Len: 7, Derek 7, Bruno 7 = 28/40

The last dance of the night is TikTok star, Charli and Mark, and she is so excited to be there. They will be dancing the Cha-cha-cha to “Savage,” Megan Thee Stallion.”

Judges Comments: Len: “This is not an easy dance, you did it, you performed.” Bruno: “You kept up with Mark, you were sharp as a blade. This was the cherry on the cake of an amazing night.” Derek: “You exceeded expectations with that dance, the precision, the attack on that dance was fantastic.” Carrie Ann: “Season 31 just got real hot real quick. You are a nuanced performer, it was amazing.”

Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 8, Len: 8, Derek 8, Bruno 8 = 32/40

Time for some results, one couple is going to be eliminated.

Jason & Peta, Teresa & Pasha are in the final two, it will be up to the judges to save one couple to dance next week.

All judges save Teresa & Pasha.

Jason & Peta are eliminated.
