Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Tuesday, December 20, reveals that Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) had drinks with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) at the bistro and offered bad news about his gossip column idea. Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) wasn’t interested in hiring Leo, so that left him out of luck on a job.
At the Kiriakis mansion on Tuesday’s Days episode, Bonnie Kiriakis (Judi Evans) thought she was seeing clown masks again, so Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) figured she was embarrassed and sent Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker) off for a drink with Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson).
Back with Gwen, she was insisting Leo was “mad for Sonny” when Sonny and Alex walked in.
Fortunately, Sonny hadn’t overheard much of anything, so Gwen and Leo were able to cover.
Later, Leo spoke to Sonny alone about his getting kicked out of “Bates Motel” tomorrow due to lack of payment.
Sonny refused to leave Leo out in the cold on Christmas Eve, so he offered to let him stay at the Kiriakis mansion.
That delighted Leo, who felt like Sonny was his holiday angel.
At the hospital on Tuesday’s DOOL episode, Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) warned that she meant what she said about telling Sarah Cook (Linsey Godfrey) the truth.
If Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) didn’t help Ava escape, she vowed to spill that he was her kidnapping accomplice and take him to prison with her.
Xander threatened Ava with a nearby scalpel, but she knew he didn’t have the guts to use it and dared him to go ahead.
When Sarah walked in, Xander hid the scalpel and acted like he was interrogating Ava for the name of her accomplice.
Sarah urged Xander to leave interrogations to the police and gave him a nudge to leave.
Xander nervously exited before summoning Gwen and convincing her to be his getaway driver – though she made it clear that he now really owed her.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) found Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) after receiving explosion updates and was relieved to learn Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) would be OK.
In an exam room, Stephanie hugged Tripp, who hoped to see Ava and let her know he loved her no matter what.
Steve wanted Tripp to stay away from Ava since she was dangerous, but Tripp felt that his mom wasn’t in her right mind.
Back with Ava on Tuesday’s Days show, she told Sarah that Charlie Dale (Mike Manning) convinced her to do everything and wouldn’t leave her alone until she did.
When Tripp walked in, Ava imagined he was Charlie and urged Sarah to see for herself that her evil son was alive.
Tripp kept trying to make Ava see that Charlie wasn’t in the room, but she became increasingly agitated and had to be sedated.
Sarah eventually signed off on Ava being transferred to Bayview, so Tripp assured his mother that they’d get her the help she needed.
Xander wondered what was going on when he returned, so Ava envisioned him as Charlie and blamed him for everything.
Sarah explained that Ava was suffering from hallucinations and psychotic episodes, so Xander realized he no longer had to help Ava escape.
Xander secretly texted Gwen about aborting the mission on Tuesday’s Days episode, but she replied that he still owed her.
As for Stephanie, she told Alex about Tripp nearly dying and said he was still supporting Ava.
Alex related due to his own mother’s messed up past and admitted it was hard without her at Christmas.
When Alex found out Stephanie might end up alone over the holidays, he wouldn’t hear of it and invited her to celebrate with the Kiriakis family.
Stephanie and Alex shared a kiss after she confessed she was starting to believe he was a great guy.
Over with Bonnie again, she broke a glass after imagining Justin in a clown mask.
Justin thought Sarah was right about Bonnie’s PTSD and convinced her to see Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) for a therapy appointment.
Justin was hoping to give Bonnie a positive report on the investigation, but then he learned Ava was being sent to Bayview and was in no condition to answer questions.
That left Justin worried that they’d never know who Ava’s kidnapper accomplice was.
Bonnie remained a nervous wreck as she frantically tried to scrub the stain from her dropped glass off the rug.
