Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap review for the week of December 19-23 reveals that Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) ran into some trouble thanks to Thomas DiMera (Cary Christopher). After Thomas overheard Gwen on the phone with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), he became quite curious about the favor Gwen did for Xander Cook (Paul Telfer).
Since Thomas just wouldn’t let it go, Gwen was forced to come up with a bogus story.
Thomas was led to believe that Gwen pitched in on finding the perfect gift for Sarah Cook (Linsey Godfrey) and promised not to tell.
Of course, kids will be kids, so Thomas spilled the news almost immediately.
That left both Gwen and Xander in quite a predicament since Xander got Sarah something skimpy to wear!
However, that fake secret wasn’t the only one that spilled. Gwen also blew up at Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and let her in on a real shocker – namely the fact that a very high Jennifer Deveraux (Cady McClain) mowed Gwen down in her car.
Since Gwen spared Jennifer from spending the holidays behind bars, she felt like she should be shown a little respect.
Julie backed off and let Gwen put out her Christmas pudding, but Jack Ashford (Matthew Ashford) wouldn’t approve if he knew about Gwen’s behavior behind closed doors.
Ava Vitali’s (Tamara Braun) mental break was also used as a DOOL exit strategy, so let’s talk about that.
It was nice to see Days writers lean into the insanity and have Ava legitimately need professional help.
Ava’s the kind of character who could easily fake a breakdown – and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) had suspicions that might be the case.
Fortunately, Days offered proof of Ava’s problems since fans could see Charlie Dale (Mike Manning) just like she did.
Ava’s issues were the real deal, so it’s good that she’s now receiving the care she needs at Bayview.
Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) also got a heavenly sign when Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller) appeared to him on Christmas Eve.
It was a nice touch having the angel vanish from the tree just before Abigail popped up and then return to the treetop once she was gone.
It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Days appearance, but it still offered some closure for Chad.
Although Chad admitted to missing Abigail even more as time goes on, it feels like he’s reached a place of acceptance.
Abigail pointed out that death couldn’t come between their love, so Chad will carry a little piece of Abby with him always.
That doesn’t mean Chad can’t move on, so there’s still a chance for him to make some updates to his friendly relationship with Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) and move it into a more romantic zone.
