In tonight’s East New York episode, Regina gets a collect call from a man named Lamonte. He is calling from prison. She is supposed to be meeting a friend but takes the time to talk to him. He thanks her for showing him a new path – restitution.
Brandy heads home to sleep. She needs 8 hours. She tosses and turns when the neighbor kids light off firecrackers and drink. She heads outside to tell them to stop. They all gang up on her, oinking at her and laughing when she tells them she will write them a ticket.
Suarez shows up at the restaurant where Regina is with friends. He is there to tell her that Lamonte has escaped and he is in East New York. During his escape he killed someone. Regina runs back to the precinct with Suarez where she updates the crew on Lamonte and his drug trafficking history and history of violence. Regina put him away and updates them on who his connections might be on the outside.
After the update, Suarez tells Regina he thinks Lamonte is after her. She doesn’t think so but she will be careful. She heads to visit Lamonte’s ex who he has a kid with. She shares that she wrote a letter for his appeal to look good. Lamonte has friends on the outside and she wants to stay alive. Meanwhile, Brandy runs into a neighbor at the mailboxes who tells her she is a nuisance to their building. She shouldn’t have ticketed the neighborhood kids.
Regina and Crystal go through Lamonte’s prison cell. It seems he is after her. They find newspaper clippings covering her career. She finds some additional drawings. After some research, Regina tells Suarez that Lamonte might be headed to Canada to escape with the help of his former associates now running their businesses. They go by the nicknames, Moon and Bird.
Marvin and Andre visit Bird’s business and realize that he has the capability to print passports that could pass as the real thing. Meanwhile, Regina discovers Lamonte has taken his son from his ex and left her injured.
Lamonte took his kid from his ex’s salon after he killed two Marshalls being stationed there. Regina is very upset and blames herself. Suarez tells her not to be so hard on herself. She cannot help but feel responsible. She told Ava, Lamonte’s ex she would protect her and her son. Outside in the corridor, brandy tells Stan and the others while they eat lunch how she made her neighbors mad. They think she needs to fix it by ripping up the tickets.
Moon and Bird are brought in for making fake passports. Regina watches as they are interrogated. It seems Lamonte has done so many favors for those in the community they wont turn on him. Regina then learns that Ava is awake. She heads to talk to her. She learns Ava did in fact know that Lamonte was planning to escape and that she and her son Drew was going to go too. He seems as if he had changed and that he wanted to be a father. Regina then learns that Canada is a person and not the country he planned to escape to.
Regina tracks down the place Lamonte is to meet up with Canada. She tries to talk some sense into him. But he isn’t listening. The team surrounds him and he is brought back to jail. Later, Regina watches as Ava and Drew are reunited with her in the hospital.
Andre asks Brandy out for a drink. She is trying to get the elevator in her building fixed. She pulls it off and wins over some of her neighbors. When they open the elevator they discover a pile of guns.
Regina comes out of her officer to a surprise birthday party. The whole gang is there. They eat cake and celebrate.
