FBI Special Agent Cameron Vo ran into an old friend in Budapest. It wasn’t a coincidence. Her friend Nick Thorpe was someone she knew in childhood and they went to Quantico together. Thorpe always wanted to be an FBI Special Agent like his dad. Vo was there when he became one, but now she was hearing that he left his job there and that he was currently working in the private sector. Vo and Thorpe went to go have a drink. She noticed that someone was looking at him. Thorpe excused himself from the table. He went outside and the other guy went outside after him. The next thing Vo is hearing is a gunshot. She goes outside to see that the person who clearly knew Thorpe was now dead. And her friend was missing.
It doesn’t matter if he was FBI or retired. He wasn’t typically a guy to run from the scene and so Vo reported what happened to the police and the police came to believe that Thorpe was their shooter. They began looking for him. It was at risk of fraying American/Hungarian relations. The American ambassador in Hungary had sent someone to question Vo. They asked Vo about her relationship with Thorpe. She told them everything she knew. She even mentioned how he quit his job in the bureau and so that’s when she was informed he hadn’t quit. He was fired. He lied to the FBI. They fired him after that and the rest was a mystery.
The United States had no idea why he was in Hungary? Or why did he supposedly murder Roland Torok? Torok was the murdered victim they all assumed was Thorpe’s job. Only Thorpe broke into Vo’s apartment. He waited for her there. He told her that he didn’t do this. He said that he works for a man who ordered Torok’s death and that he hadn’t pulled the trigger. Thorpe wants immunity and protection before he says more. Thorpe ran after Vo suggested bringing him in. She reported it to Kellet and Thorpe later called her. He offered to help them in exchange for immunity and protection.
Kellet brought the offer to Forrester. Forrester enlisted Jaeger. They got Thorpe a deal and he came in. He said he was a private contractor for a man named Paul Kovacs. Kovacs was a big casino guy in Hungary. He was also in bed with the Russians. He was using the casino to funnel money for them. He wanted to get into the American markets. He was hoping to use Las Vegas as a bigger money laundering place for the Russian mob. Vo was going to go undercover. She was going to pretend to be a buyer. She was going to get drugs in exchange for money. She pretended to be a big person in the States and Kovacs fell for it.
Kovacs was charmed by Vo. He flirted with her. He made a deal with her. the team meanwhile was checking into Kovacs’s people. They learned that one of his henchmen had been in the area during Torok’s murder. Thereby, proving that Thorpe was telling the truth. He hadn’t killed the guy. It was his boss who carried out the job and Thorpe ran because he was scared. Vo felt vindicated that her friend wasn’t a killer. She vouched for him. She was proven right and so all she had to do left was to finish the deal she made with Kovacs. She met later met up with Kovacs. She came carrying seven million and he tried to rob her.
It turns out the guy he killed had stolen money from him. Which didn’t help because Kovacs was already embezzling from the Russians. Kovacs needed that money to keep the Russians happy and so he tried to rob Vo. Vo and Raines were able to turn the tables. They saved themselves and Europol moved in to arrest Kovacs. The team got Torok’s killer as well. He died, but his gun was checked and it was the same bullet used to murder Torok. The team thanked Thorpe for his family. He had claimed not to know that Kovacs was going to rob them and so he got to walk away scott-free after assisting them in their arrests.
Vo followed him back to the casino where he was staying. She got a call from Forrester telling her to bring Thorpe in and she couldn’t do so because he had disappeared. He was no longer staying at the casino. He checked out two days before the op. It turns out Thorpe was embezzling money. Not Torok. Torok tried to blackmail him over it and so he told Kovacs that Torok was responsible and that’s what led to Torok being killed. Thorpe then blamed everything on Kovacs. He soon got rid of Kovacs by contacting Vo. Thorpe was playing everybody. He even played a friend. Vo got angry. She felt like a fool for falling for his lies and she had even believed his lie about why he got fired.
Thorpe wasn’t trying to capture pedophiles by breaking some rules. He worked in white-collar. It’s how he learned how to embezzle money. The team caught up to Thorpe as he was flying out and they arrested him for the conspiracy to commit murder and embezzling. And so Vo’s job was safe, but she will never trust as easy as she had with Thorpe.
