General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Friday, July 29, reveals that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) planned a trial by fire for Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) while Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) suspected Esme Prince’s (Avery Kristen Pohl) personal vendetta.
In the stairwell at GH, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) pretended to lash out at Dex for following him again, but he assured Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) there was no need to take the issue to Sonny.
Afterward, Dex met up with Sonny and let him know he made sure Felty (Brian Norris) wouldn’t be saying anything.
Sonny briefly feared Dex had talked to the cops, but Dex clarified that he’d steered clear of them.
Dex also met Brick (Stephen A. Smith), who didn’t seem to like him much.
After Sonny privately hinted at Dex becoming an enforcer, he pointed out Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was about that age when he started out.
Brick still had concerns about Dex’s overconfidence and wanted to do a thorough background check.
As for Sonny, he hinted about putting Dex through a trial by fire.
Later, Michael reconvened with Dex and heard about Brick wanting to look into his past, but Michael thought it was good since Dex was getting closer to the inner circle.
After Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) had a therapeutic conversation with Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) about Harmony Miller (Inga Cadranel) and the accident, she decided to skip her therapy session.
Brando pushed Sasha to reschedule it, but she felt smothered by her husband as well as Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs).
After Brando once again pushed for Sasha’s out-patient treatment, she snapped at him to stop controlling her every move.
Since their life together was falling apart, Brando argued that maybe someone should control Sasha – though he apologized almost immediately. Sasha still thought that was how Brando really felt and asked for time alone.
Soon after, Sasha got a message from Sienna, the make-up artist who previously gave Sasha drugs.
Sienna invited Sasha to blow off some steam with her, so Sasha texted back to find out where.
As for Willow, she let TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) take another blood sample and wondered what he thought was wrong with her.
Michael interrupted, but Willow kept him out of the loop on this being something beyond the typical OB-GYN stuff.
TJ eventually asked why Willow was keeping Michael in the dark.
On the stand, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) admitted he knew for a fact that Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) didn’t distribute that video and explained their cemetery encounter.
Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) got Spencer to admit he arranged an off-the-books day pass through a bribe and visited his mother’s grave on the anniversary of her death.
Spencer mentioned that Trina was there working on a school project, which Diane said she was verifying with PCU.
Diane highlighted the fact that Trina was with Spencer when the video was emailed widely, but the ADA scheduled an email and sent it to the judge as well as Diane.
That proved how easy it was to schedule an email in advance.
However, Spencer still got a chance to defend Trina and everyone else who was innocent at the cabin.
Esme was the one Spencer thought was guilty, so he conveyed that in court.
Even so, Spencer approached Trina in the aftermath and feared his attempt to do the right thing hadn’t worked.
At Wyndemere, Ava called Esme a “conniving little whore,” but Esme said that it takes one to know one.
Although Esme insisted she was leaving town, Ava physically stopped her from exiting and said Esme was going to pay for all the damage she’d caused.
Esme acted like she didn’t have to go running to Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and argued that he came to her because Ava pushed him away.
Ava recalled how Esme had helped torment her – even to the point of putting her dead daughter’s hospital badge under a burning car.
This seemed personal to Ava, especially when Esme rattled off a bunch of info about Ava’s relationships with Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig), Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) and more.
Esme acted like she did her research, but she was unsettled when Ava spotted the letter in her suitcase and picked it up.
After Esme snatched it back and acted like it was none of Ava’s business, Ava let it go.
What Ava wanted to focus on was making Esme clear Trina’s name.
Esme didn’t see what was in it for her, but Ava warned that no one would find Esme if she didn’t – at least they wouldn’t find her breathing!
General Hospital spoilers say Ava and Esme’s showdown is only going to get worse from here, so stay tuned.
