General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) may be the new Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) – at least in a way. Marshall is still lying to Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner), so Curtis’ dad himself may be Port Charles’ next villain and Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) enemy.
Let’s mull over some crucial clues that might point to Marshall’s mob power. Marshall revealed that he got caught up in some criminal matters, which nearly brought danger to his family’s doorstep.
Marshall had to leave town to protect the people he cared about, but why is it safe now?
Marshall suggested there’d always be some level of risk, but he seems reasonably confident the danger won’t follow him at this point.
Perhaps that’s because Marshall IS the danger! What if Marshall kept rising in the ranks and eventually took over this mob organization?
If Marshall is in charge, he could feel confident enough that Curtis, TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) and Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) would be protected.
Marshall can’t predict what his enemies might do, but he can at least know the threat that was once following him is no longer an issue.
Of course, that part of the story was surely true – the part about the dangerous threat that posed a risk to Marshall’s wife and sons.
However, Marshall might’ve neglected to mention that he’s now the threat himself! He alluded to a key mob player and refused to share who this person was.
Perhaps that’s because Marshall doesn’t want to admit HE’S the key player.
We can’t forget how menacing Marshall looked when he showed up on the docks to confront Joey Novak (Patrick Zeller), who nearly died after taking a brutal beating.
There was another crucial clue in the January 17 episode when Marshall interacted with Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Eddy) at the hospital.
“You think it’s all about you!” Epiphany declared. “You know what? There was somebody else who thought it was all about him, too. Then he took my job from me. Now compared to him, you’re a saint. But I got my job back, and that’s all that matters.”
It’s interesting that Epiphany recapped the Cyrus GH drama and acted like Marshall was a saint by comparison.
Maybe that’s not entirely true if Marshall is also running a criminal organization – the same threat that shut down one of Sonny’s suppliers and is making big moves.
