General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) may find himself off lithium and in Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) bed. Will Sonny’s uncontrolled bipolar symptoms play a role in his betrayal of Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright)?
When Carly confronted her rival at Crimson, Nina made her stance crystal clear. If Sonny comes to Nina again, she definitely doesn’t intend to send him away!
Nina will be waiting with open arms if Sonny gets fed up with Carly and decides to resume his Nixon Falls romance instead.
Unfortunately, Sonny’s lack of the appropriate meds could give him a nudge in the wrong direction.
In the January 10 episode, Sonny received a message from the pharmacy saying that he was out of lithium refills, so he’d have to see Dr. Sullivan for a new prescription.
The news was an annoyance in that moment since Sonny had more important things on his mind – namely Carly and his fractured marriage.
Sonny could easily put off getting that lithium prescription or even forget since he’s got so much on his plate.
Sonny’s not in a great place mentally, so that could spell trouble when you combine it with this intriguing lack of lithium hint.
Perhaps GH writers are setting up a bit of an excuse for Sonny’s potential betrayal.
It would soften the blow of Sonny’s cheating if his emotions are all over the place due to the manic highs and lows of his bipolar disorder.
Without the appropriate lithium dosage to keep him on course, Sonny may chase the high of sleeping with Nina.
Naturally, Nina would just think Sonny was choosing her. She wouldn’t be in the loop on Sonny’s messed-up meds – at least not at first.
However, it might ultimately be Nina who senses that something’s wrong in the aftermath and convinces Sonny to get back on track.
One way or another, Sonny seems poised to betray Carly with Nina – at least if the writers have sense enough to create the maximum drama.
As a path to achieving that drama while still offering hope for “CarSon,” maybe Sonny will go off the rails without his lithium and have somewhat of an excuse.
