General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Wednesday, January 12, reveals that Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) warned Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) to “kill off” Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) or their marriage was doomed. Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) also walked free, so here’s how all Wednesday’s action went down.
At Charlie’s Pub, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was surprised when Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) sounded almost merciful during their conversation about Tracy. Alexis acknowledged that maybe losing Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) was punishment enough for Tracy.
When Harmony Miller (Inga Cadranel) came in, Alexis hyped up her friendship with her to Sam and hoped for a way forward. While Alexis made a phone call to ask for a favor, Sam rehashed Harmony’s cult past and couldn’t just forgive everything. Harmony wanted a chance to prove herself, so Sam agreed to let her try – though she vowed that she’d be watching her.
In lockup, Tracy wasn’t interested in any plea deal that Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) and the “Kentucky-fried lawyer” he’d hired might score. She tried to fire both Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) and Ned, but Ned reminded Tracy that she couldn’t fire her own children!
Ned pushedTracy to be reasonable and let Martin negotiate a deal with DA Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), but she was adamant about the charges being dropped entirely. In a moment alone, Ned pushed for answers about what Tracy wanted to tell him before.
Tracy admitted it had to do with Brook Lynn as well as Ned’s granddaughter. She said it could be nothing or it could be everything, but Ned wanted her to stop being so cryptic and just tell him. In the end, Tracy decided to keep her mouth shut until she knew more information.
Later, Tracy learned she was free to go and feared this was too good to be true. She wondered what changed, so Alexis appeared and supposed that she did. Alexis was no longer willing to be part of the case against Tracy, so Robert dropped the matter without the victim’s support. Tracy didn’t act all that grateful, but Alexis let Ned know she did it mostly for Luke anyway.
At the hospital, Brook Lynn cornered Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) and hoped they could let bygones be bygones. Austin wasn’t wired that way and wasn’t interested when Brook Lynn offered to talk to her family about some alternative to a seat at the table. He didn’t want Brook Lynn’s bribe and remained hurt over how everything went down.
At Crimson, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) showed up after being summoned by Nina. Valentin assumed Nina thought he couldn’t refuse her and said she’d be right. Nina was happy to hear that since she wanted to join forces against a personal threat. She’d made an enemy that was also Valentin’s enemy.
Valentin wondered if Nina had a beef with the Quartermaines, so she admitted it was just one: Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell). Nina refused to lose her grandson when the state of New York guaranteed her rights to him.
Valentin warned that Nina would be taking on the Corinthos family as well, including Sonny. He questioned how long the peace could really last once Nina did that, but Nina mentioned something about “Mike” and caught Valentin off guard.
Nina explained that was the name Sonny used in Nixon Falls, so Valentin said that maybe “Mike” would understand – but he didn’t think Sonny would. When Valentin quizzed Nina about her feelings for Sonny and his feelings for her, Nina admitted they were both lost in different ways.
Valentin wasn’t judging Nina and had tried to move on by not keeping track of the details in her life. Nina was hopeful that they could work together without complications, but Valentin argued that would mean a war on two fronts with a child in between. He couldn’t help with that and urged Nina not to go up against Michael.
Nina thought Valentin really had changed if he was telling her to turn the other cheek. Later, Nina called Martin for help since Valentin was unwilling to back her up.
Back with Valentin, he interrupted Brook Lynn and Austin’s confrontation at GH. Brook Lynn took a dig about getting home to her baby with Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), so Austin complained about her twisting the knife.
After Brook Lynn walked away, it became apparent that Valentin wanted Austin to join the BLQ payback scheme. As for Brook Lynn, she wound up alone on an elevator with Tracy, who confirmed she knew the baby at home belonged to Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms).
At home, Sonny looked at a text, which reminded him about being out of lithium refills and needing a new prescription. Sonny turned his attention to Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) and Donna Corinthos (Ava Rose), who excitedly accepted the lunches Daddy made for them.
Carly joined them and played nice until the girls headed off to school with their driver. Once they were alone, Carly said she thought they agreed Sonny wasn’t staying last night. Sonny guessed Carly thought wrong and tried to get Carly to remember his love for her.
Carly didn’t doubt that or her own love, but she needed more than words and memories. She needed time to deal with all the Nina drama and couldn’t just go back to how things were before.
Sonny argued that Nina was in the past, so Carly asked why he was with her on New Year’s Eve then. She also wondered “why the hell” she had to hear about it from Nina. Sonny downplayed everything in his explanation, but Carly couldn’t trust him in the same way and felt like their marriage was built on quicksand.
Sonny wondered if Carly was calling it quits and accused her of using Nina as an excuse not to get back with him. He acted like part of Carly already went with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and pushed Carly to admit there were four people in this marriage rather than three.
“As long as Nina’s alive, there’s no chance for our marriage,” Carly ultimately declared. Sonny asked if that was a threat, but Carly argued that Sonny needed to kill Nina off – not physically, but in his heart. Until Sonny did that, Carly felt they’d have no shot at reconciliation.
To avoid traumatizing the girls by taking their daddy away again, Carly decided she’d be the one to move out and later filled Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LiCociero) in at the Metro Court. As for Sonny, he hurled his empty lithium bottle across the Corinthos kitchen and poured himself another drink.
