General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Wednesday, June 22, reveals that Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) made a shocking move against Laura Collins (Genie Francis) – and Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) filled in for Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) by visiting Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst).
As Laura approached GH to kick off the show’s 15,00th episode, she reflected on how this place had always been a sanctuary – somewhere she felt safe and at home. Laura vowed that today would be no different despite what she was facing.
Laura put on a brave face in front of Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Eddy) and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). That left Britt amazed since you never would’ve known Laura was a “dead woman walking.”
Violet Finn (Jophielle Love) was at the hospital after getting into some poison oak, so Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) got the mayor to tell Violet not to scratch.
Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was also there after overdoing it while boxing, so he checked on Laura since he saw what The Invader published.
After Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) gave Laura a pep talk, they joined a meeting let by Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) to save her hide! Laura sent Mac Scorpio (John J. York) back to the PCPD, but the others remained for a strategy session.
Scott, Robet Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) were all in attendance.
Alexis argued that she had an obligation to run the story since it was real news.
However, Scott argued there was no way the Friends of Port Charles organization had collected enough signatures to force a recall mayoral election.
There was a discussion about the anonymous op ed and how the writer clearly wanted Laura out of a job.
Carly and Sam ended up confronting Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth), but he insisted he no longer had political ambitions.
Scott had obtained copies of the names who supported this recall election, so he called Laura’s attention to one he’d circled.
That led to Laura confronting Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman), who had signed a “save the whales” petition. Bobbie figured Friends of Port Charles must’ve pulled a bait and switch.
After being summoned, Selina Wu (Lydia Look) met with Sonny in his office. Curtis was also there as Selina admitted to supporting Friends of Port Charles.
Sonny wanted Selina to get her people to back off and provide a name of contacts so they could figure out who was pulling the strings. Selina agreed in exchange for two favors from Sonny when she needed them.
Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) also became a suspect briefly, but he pointed out that he wouldn’t have done written anonymously if he’d wanted to publish something against Laura.
After doing some digging, Curtis called Laura with updates on the money trail that led to the mastermind behind Friends of Port Charles.
Soon after, Laura showed up at Pentonville and found Cyrus since he’d been transferred there. As Cyrus spoke to Laura on the prison phone, he assumed that she’d read his letter.
Cyrus acted like he couldn’t run a grassroots organization like that from behind bars and suggested he was merely an advisor. Nevertheless, Cyrus was indeed behind the scathing, embarrassing letter that offered an attack on Laura and the job she was doing.
Since Cyrus claimed to have found God, Laura wondered where God was in that op ed. Cyrus said he spent his life hating and couldn’t change his nature on a dime.
In the end, Laura seemed to realize what would hit Cyrus in his soul, so she forgave him and thanked him for watching out for Port Charles. An emotionally affected Cyrus lowered his phone as Laura proudly walked out.
Since the charity softball game was coming up, Curtis delivered a cap to Portia and warned her about Cyrus’ transfer to Pentonville. Portia wasn’t about to let that ruin this beautiful day.
After Sonny thanked Selina for coming through, she said she never would’ve given support if she’d known Cyrus was behind Friends of Port Charles.
Sonny was glad to hear that and thought Mayor Collins was the best thing to happen to PC in a long time.
At the nail salon, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) and Bobbie gathered for some pre-game pedis.
Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) brought Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) in before Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) came along with a bombshell.
Although Scott had put all this effort into helping Laura, he wanted to make sure Liesl knew she was his one and only.
Scott made a sweet speech down on one knee and ultimately asked Liesl to marry him, but she turned down the proposal.
Liesl felt they should leave marriage to the other fools and didn’t think they needed more than each other. Scott and Liesl then shared a happy kiss as they celebrated their love.
At Shadybrook, Maxie put out beauty supplies nervously and wasn’t sure Liz would want to see her since they weren’t really friends.
Laura reminded Maxie that she wanted to come because Lulu couldn’t and thought they should let Liz know they cared.
Once Liz came to the visiting area, Maxie explained that she’d brought some things from the women of Deception.
There was talk about Liz’s recovery and how her kids were coping as well as what made Port Charles special.
Later, everyone gathered at Charlie’s Pub in their softball uniforms.
Laura’s published rebuttal could be heard as she talked about how Port Charles wasn’t perfect, but it had a lot going for it.
Even if Laura lost her spot as mayor, she felt like the town would be in good hands if another “lifer” like her took over.
GH’s 15,000th episode ended on a cute note as everyone rallied around Laura and enjoyed themselves.
