General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Wednesday, March 9, reveals that Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) and Daddy Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) worked on a twisted Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) plot while Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) fell for a tarot card trick.
First, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) made sure Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) was OK with making himself the bait.
Drew confirmed he wanted to take down Victor, but Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) noted that Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) personal effects had already been delivered to Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).
That meant Sam, Dante and Drew had to work fast.
They wound up at the Metro Court, where Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) convinced Britt to open the box since it might have something of financial value for Bailey Louise Jones (London and Jett Prinzo-Berendt) inside.
Britt was just about to open the package on the terrace when Dante and Sam showed up.
While some scheming went down, Victor told Ava and Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) that his dealings with Peter were very limited.
Victor argued that even people like Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) got duped and pointed out that Peter was dead anyway.
Talk turned back to the expanded vow renewal as Victor acknowledged Esme’s sway with Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and pushed “Nava” to invite her, too.
After Victor left, Nikolas wondered what happened to their intimate vow renewal plan.
Ava admitted Laura Collins (Genie Francis) encouraged her to see what she could find out and earn Victor’s trust.
Ava thought that when Victor showed his true colors, they would be ready. Nikolas assured Ava that nothing would ever come between them again.
Back at the Metro Court, Drew distracted Victor with threats about making him pay if he didn’t stay away from his family.
Soon after, Victor landed on the terrace and witnessed Britt get into a struggle with Maxie over the box of Peter’s belongings.
The charade resulted in the planted tarot card falling out, so Victor covertly swiped it and looked pleased once he gazed at it alone.
In Niagara Falls, Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) got lost while driving and admitted his GPS system was broken.
Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) couldn’t get a cell signal and worried since they hadn’t passed another car or gas station for miles.
Sasha then got paranoid and wondered if they were really lost or if Brando changed his mind about marrying her.
After Brando offered reassurance, he rolled down the window so that Sasha could hear the river and some nearby chapel bells ringing for another couple.
Sasha smiled since all hope wasn’t lost.
Sasha was eager to marry so that Liam Corbin’s brief life would have meaning and suggested they’d prove he was born out of love.
At the Metro Court, Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs) was concerned since Brando wasn’t returning her calls.
Lucy was surprised when Gladys seemed to be on “Team Sasha” now, so Gladys praised Sasha for the bravery she showed after losing Liam.
Sasha’s cell signal finally came back, so she took a call from Gladys – though she pretended the connection was too bad to really talk and hung up.
When Lucy mentioned almost getting married in Niagara Falls once, Gladys panicked over the idea of Brando and Sasha’s quickie wedding.
Sasha tried to convince Gladys to calm down and butt out, but Gladys felt it’d be a big mistake to rush into this marriage.
Gladys didn’t want Brando and Sasha doing it for all the wrong reasons and dashed off to stop them.
Back with Brando, he urged Sasha to get the rings he purchased out of the glove compartment.
Sasha loved them and gave Brando a kiss, but the check engine light came on moments later.
Although Brando feared they’d have to wait hours for a tow truck, it showed up within minutes.
Sasha was relieved since she clearly wanted to have this wedding tonight.
After the orderly put Ryan in his cell at Spring Ridge, Esme snuck in and ranted about how he could’ve blown the whole thing just to scold her.
Ryan insisted that Esme had failed him and reminded her that she had one job: to break up Nikolas and Ava.
Esme acted like it wasn’t her fault that Ava and Nikolas’ love was stronger than a stalker.
Although Esme had to make her relationship with “Spence” look real, Esme’s true loyalty was to Ryan – and she wanted to prove it.
“Daddy…you like it when I call you that, don’t you?” Esme said on Wednesday’s GH episode.
Esme wanted to know Ryan’s backup plan and felt that she couldn’t help unless he trusted her.
Ryan said that trust was a two-way street and was upset over Esme getting distracted by these “shallow co-ed shenanigans.”
Esme suggested that if Ryan didn’t trust her, then maybe she’d just tell Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) that his brother had been able to walk and talk for months.
Ryan grabbed Esme, but she snarled at him to let her go – leaving Ryan pleased that she’d grown a backbone.
Esme assured Ryan that she would make him proud and that she knew he was the boss.
Esme wanted to earn Ryan’s trust, so he told her to start back at square one with Ava.
Although Esme didn’t think Ava would ever care about Ryan the way she did, she awaited orders.
Ryan felt that while Spencer was incarcerated, Esme had to create an even larger presence and make herself more likable to Ava as well as Nikolas.
Ryan added that he was confident that Nikolas would come around – like father, like son.
Even if Nikolas left Ava, Esme pointed out that Ryan was still a prisoner. She didn’t understand what Ryan’s endgame was, but he said to leave that to him.
Ryan told Esme to do what he said and then she’d have her heart’s desire – not only Spencer and his fortune, but the family she’d always longed for.
Esme argued that Ava wasn’t her family, but Ryan replied that Ava was family to him.
After Ryan stood up, he insisted that what was his was also Esme’s.
“My beautiful, gifted daughter,” Ryan said as he pushed Esme’s hair back tenderly.
