General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap review for the week of November 14-18 reveals that Esme Prince’s (Avery Pohl) path to redemption began – and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) was able to shine in a new story away from Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton).
Although the show finally cast Liz’s parents and tried to offer some answers regarding their decades of abandonment, the Reiko Finn (Mele Ihara) rewrite pretty much ruined that storyline.
The timeline doesn’t make sense and somehow turned Liz’s backstory into something that was all about Finn’s pain.
Fortunately, Elizabeth isn’t sitting around wallowing in grief over what happened – nor is she sitting at home pining for Finn.
Liz actually cut an important conversation with Finn short due to Nikolas’ SOS call and bailed on him.
We applaud the show’s decision to seemingly just move full-speed ahead with some fresh drama.
Rebecca Herbst has been doing a fantastic job in Liz’s latest scenes at Wyndemere.
It felt like Liz was under a microscope with Finn, but now she’s the one cleaning up Nikolas’ messes.
That’s creating a fun dynamic and giving Liz some of the most entertaining material she’s had in quite some time.
It was great to see Liz trick Esme into thinking she’d need a C-section without anesthesia and call her out for faking a medical crisis.
Now that Liz is caught up in all the Esme and Nikolas chaos, there are some exciting possibilities to look forward to.
However, GH writers also seem to be setting up a redemption path for Esme – and it involves her unborn child.
Esme has been talking to “Ace” and acting like they’re in this together, so the goal is to make her seem motherly.
The real turning point came when Esme felt “Ace” kick repeatedly and joked about becoming a soccer mom.
There was a moment of genuine emotion behind closed doors, so Esme wasn’t putting on a show when she cried happy tears over her baby.
The question is: Will this redemption strategy actually work? Time will tell, but it could turn into a familiar tale like Nelle Benson’s (Chloe Lanier).
The writers genuinely tried to redeem Nelle, but it just didn’t work.
Nelle was far better as a manipulative schemer, so the show ultimately scrapped the redemption and took her down a sinister road again.
That could be where Esme’s storyline is headed now, too.
Esme may redeem herself somewhat and try to be better for her baby, but she’ll inevitably revert to this villainous side that Avery Pohl plays so well.
Of course, many viewers still feel like Esme needs to suffer more than just being stuck in a cushy room at Wyndemere.
That could also be a hindrance when it comes to redemption, so stay tuned to see how it all goes down.
