General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that we have to ask: Would Jordi Vilasuso make a good Jason Morgan (last played by Steve Burton)? This might be an exciting recast option to consider now that Vilasuso is out at The Young and the Restless.
On Y&R, Vilasuso has been playing the role of Detective Rey Rosales.
Rey usually lands on the right side of the law as a result of his career choice, but his personality is actually pretty similar to Jason’s.
Vilasuso knows how to play the strong silent type – the kind of guy who says more with a look across the room than anything.
Rey is a calm, rational guy who’s fiercely protective of the people he loves. It takes a lot to rile Rey, but he’ll always step up when he’s needed.
Since Rey’s character has a great deal in common with Jason, we know Vilasuso could pull off the part.
It’s just a matter of whether the show wants to replace Steve Burton and whether they feel Vilasuso would be a good fit.
Jason worked for the mob as Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) right-hand man and enforcer, but we all know they’re basically considered the good guys in Port Charles.
A little crime doesn’t make people villains on a soap.
Jason was the resident hero before his presumed death, so that’s left a void in many ways on the canvas.
Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) is far too bubbly to be a Jason substitute – and he walked away from the mob lifestyle a long time ago anyway.
Steve Burton’s version will always be classic Jason, but Jordi Vilasuso could put his own spin on the role.
Many fans have been calling for Jason Morgan’s return, so there may be some who would accept a recast if it meant getting Jason back in some form.
Could you imagine a “JaSam” reunion between Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and Vilasuso’s Jason?
That sounds sizzling if you ask us! Then again, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Vilasuso’s Jason would surely sizzle together as well.
Vilasuso is a handsome guy and an excellent actor, so he’d be a fantastic addition to the cast of GH.
