In tonight’s Good Sam episode, Sam went to the Head of Plastic Surgery at the hospital to get dirt on her dad. Sam was competing against her father to be the permanent head of her own department and unfortunately her father started playing dirty first. He tricked Sam into losing a multi-million dollar donation for the hospital. This alone could cost her not just the leadership position, but also her job and her father didn’t care because it was all about winning to him. Griff was horrible. Its now only fair that Sam sinks to his level to defeat him and she did so by looking into his donations. She was told to start there because Griff has the highest number of anonymous donations. And so that’s what she did.
Sam found out about Helen Fletcher. She made several secret donations and rich people don’t normally do that. When they donate, they tend to want something named in their honor. Fletcher didn’t do this and so Sam later met with her for lunch. Sam told the woman that she was competing against her father for the leadership position. She also said she knew how well she donates. Sam laid everything out on the table and the woman agreed to donating fourteen million dollars. But only if Sam drops out of the race for leadership. Fletcher wanted Griff to win and she was willing to pay anything to make it happen.
Sam couldn’t give the woman an answer. She instead tried asking her mom about it and her mom got upset at her help for going to Rhonda for help. Vivian said Rhonda couldn’t be trusted. Sam didn’t want to hear about Rhonda and so she told her mom that she could handle this one on her own. She didn’t know that Vivian would stop being angry at Griff long enough to warn him about Rhonda. It seems that the two did something years ago. Something they didn’t want coming out and that was worrisome. They couldn’t stop Sam from digging. Sam kept looking into what happened and she found out that Fletcher sponsored a drug trial through the hospital.
Sam was looking through the records with her new boyfriend Kingsley. She found out about the drug trial and she learned that side effects were “scrubbed” when it was given to the FDA. Some doctor managed to hide what the drugs was causing in people. Sam knew the doctor was her dad. Its why Fletcher donates millions anonymously. She was bribing him and trying to keep it a secret. Sam’s boyfriend told her that she needed to get into touch with the patients. They may be anonymous now, but they won’t be for much longer and Sam even said as much to her father and her father once again warned her that she doesn’t have a stomach for what comes next.
Sam believes she does. She kept pursuing the altered lab report. She didn’t know that her mother was secretly helping Griff to bury everything or that her mother was helping him. They had been given a warning by Fletcher to bury what happened because she couldn’t risk a scandal before two pharmaceutical launches. Fletcher wanted to bury Sam. Her parents did not. They wanted to warn Sam off and it wasn’t working. Sam was too persistent. She gets it from them. Sam also was concerned about a patient. There was a patient who didn’t have insurance. He didn’t meet the criteria to get free care and so Sam altered his file.
Griff tried to throw that in her face. But Sam reminded him that she helped someone the system was set against, and he helped a billionaire make more money. Sam managed to later help her patient. She learned that he was suffering from a rare condition. She treated it and he could live a potentially long life. Sam also learned that she was never going to find the patients to testify about the side-effects because Griff convinced Fletcher to bribe the patients in the drug trial. He convinced himself and Sam that it was better that way because at least those people got to walk away with something. And it doesn’t hurt it raised his profile bringing in major donations.
Sam decided to use that same tactic. She blackmailed Fletcher into donating to the hospital in her name and that got her back in the running for leadership. Sam never learned about the bigger secret her parents were hiding from her or that they believe they’re protecting her by keeping her in the dark. Sam was too busy meeting with Rhonda. Rhonda came to collect on their bargain. She helped Sam get a leg up in the race in exchange for something she wants. Sam thought it would be about her father. It wasn’t. It was actually about her mother. Rhonda said that she needed something about Vivian.
And the two were talking as the residents under Sam’s care went to go hang out at their new spot.
