In tonight’s I Love A Mama’s Boy episode, it’s hard on Abbey to stay invested in the relationship as Tre continues to pick his mom over her. His mother Lorenda was born on Valentine’s Day. She, therefore, demands that her son spend the whole day with her because that’s her day and she never invites his girlfriend Abbey to come along with them. Tre leaves that decision up to his mother. He never extends an invitation without his mother’s approval for her birthday. But Lorenda doesn’t want to share him. She comes over to the couple’s place so many times because she wants Tre’s attention to be on her. And so Abbey tried to talk to her about it.
Abbey met her a day after Lorenda’s birthday to give her mother-in-law a gift. She bought her a nightgown. It was very pretty and guaranteed to fit. Abbey also used that meeting to talk to Lorenda one on one. Abbey told Lorenda that she understands they both love Tre. But Lorenda has to give the couple some space so that their relationship can grow. If she comes around all the time, Abbey is left feeling resentful while Tre ignores the problem. Abbey respectfully asked Lorenda to come around less and Lorenda decided to ignore her because she said this should have come from her son. She also knew her son would never tell her this.
Emily meanwhile was learning that her mama’s boy went on a blind date with a woman his mother preferred over her. Emily was Shekeb’s girlfriend. They live together. They were thinking of taking the next step together and so finding out that he went on a blind date had hurt. It made her realize how truly evil Laila was. Laila was set on arranging Shekeb’s marriage. She didn’t want to accept Emily. She only agreed to go over to their apartment as long as Shekeb agreed to the blind date. But Laila didn’t stop there. Laila also arranged for a second date with Yussra. Shekeb was explaining it to Emily when she naturally had an adverse reaction to the news.
But at least these couples get to spend some quality time together. Matt couldn’t even do that with Brittany. He had her over for her first night together and his mother spied on them the whole time. Kelly came by the house before Brittany came over. She broke a candelabra and some condoms. She said she wanted grandkids. She just didn’t want them before Matt got married. Kelly was an interfering mess and she literally tried to spy on the couple from her house next door. Her husband knowing her had put a bush right in the middle to obstruct her view of Matt’s house. And so Kelly couldn’t spy too well with that.
Kelly got so mad the next day that she tore the bush out. She got on her ATV and tied the bush to the vehicle and then drove off. She ripped the bush out by its roots. She was now able to spy on her son at any time she wants, but he heard the ruckus and he saw what she did. Both he and Brittany saw her rip the bush out. They couldn’t believe she would do that. It felt like a violation. It was a violation. Of privacy if nothing else. Kelly only spied on her son because she was jealous. She admitted in one of her taped confessionals that she liked spending all that time with Matt and now she doesn’t want to share it with anyone else.
She didn’t even want to share back when he had a fiancé. Kelly did everything imaginable to undermine that relationship and she’s trying to repeat that performance with this newest relationship. She spied on the couple threw the window, she ripped up the bush, and she was just being way overly involved. Speaking of being overly involved, there was Esther. Esther was paying for her son Ethan’s wedding to Leyna and she took over all the wedding planning. She claimed the title as the wedding planner but it was getting out of hand how she didn’t want the bride to pick anything and her closeness to her son was disturbing. They flirt too much. They kiss too much. He spanked her backside during a dance rehearsal for the mother and son dance for the wedding.
It was gross. It crossed several lines of decency. It also was hurting Leyna. Leyna wants to be Ethan’s first choice and she doesn’t really want a big wedding. She wants something small and casual. The wedding was planned for the day after a big game. Leyna thought there could be crossovers and Esther shut that down. Esther wanted to plan everything herself. She only let the couple plan the rehearsal dinner. Everything else, she’s handling on her own. Leyna doesn’t get a say else wise. She talked to a friend about it and the friend told her to be more assertive. It was her wedding and she should be the one making the decisions.
A real wedding planner would slide everything passed the bride for approval. A real mother-in-law would also know when to step back and that’s not what Lorenda did. Lorenda returned her gift to the same boutique where Abbey works. Abbey helped her pick out something else. Lorenda was wondering where she could wear such a great outfit and Abbey replied that she could wear it on her dates with Tre. Abbey was being so nice that Lorenda decided to tell her the real reason she came to the boutique. She came to the boutique to tell Abbey that she doesn’t get to tell her not to come over and that she keeps coming over whenever she wants.
Lorenda was just going to do whatever she wanted and no one can stop her.
