In tonight’s My 600-lb Life episode, Lisa Ebberson was fifty-one at the start of her weight loss journey. She weighed six hundred and thirty-seven pounds. She was also bed bound. She hadn’t been able to get up in years and she hated herself for it. She hated how much she relies on other people. She lives with her boyfriend Randy and he was her primary caregiver. But as Dr. Now would say, he was also her primary enabler.

Randy didn’t want to give her the junk food. He said he does it so that she wouldn’t get mad at him and well that doesn’t really hold water because what else is she going to do. She’s bed-bound. She can’t get up to make the food herself or get the deliveryman to come to her bed. It was Randy who did all of that and he could stop whenever he wants to. Anger or no!

Randy himself is not in the best shape. He walks around with an oxygen tank. Randy could also perhaps eat healthier and so he wasn’t helping anyone in this situation. Not himself or her. Randy met Lisa when she was forty and after years of abuse. Lisa’s father was an abusive alcoholic. He eventually left the family when she was a kid. It wasn’t long after that Lisa was raped by two guys that she thought were friends and so that’s when she started putting on the weight. She did it so that no one would hurt her again. And unfortunately for her, it didn’t work out because she kept getting abused by men.

Lisa was seventeen when she got pregnant. She wasn’t in love with the guy and they were more or less thrown together due to the pregnancy and that’s why it wasn’t shocking when it didn’t work out. She went from that okay relationship to marrying a guy in prison. He was already in prison by time they met and the relationship fell apart rather quickly after he was released. He was an abusive drunk as well. Then there was the guy who cheated on her a lot. There was another abusive addict in there as well. But eventually came Randy. Randy wasn’t her type. She didn’t like or love him the beginning. He just grew on her.

Randy was there at her biggest. They haven’t had a physical relationship in years and he still takes care of her. Not many people visit Lisa nowadays. She blames her weight for it and she knows she has no one to blame but herself. She also doesn’t know how to lose weight when that answer is pretty simple. Stop eating the junk food. Start exercising. Remember portion control! Lisa technically already knew this but she needed a doctor to come out and say it to her. Lisa said she was ready to lose the weight and so she reached out to Dr. Now. And he agreed to speak with her via video-chat so that he could tell her to her face what she needs to do if she’s serious.

The video chat with Dr. Now didn’t go well because he didn’t accept any of her excuses. He called out Randy as an enabler. He told her that she set up a whole system to keep her in bed and he doesn’t see anything showing that she wants to get out of bed. He ended up giving her a goal weight to reach before he would be willing to perform surgery. He also told her that unless she’s able to stand that he wouldn’t be able to help her. Lisa understood where he was coming from and she cried after the call because she realized she’s killing herself. She’s killing herself with food and she has no one to blame other than herself.

Lisa knew this. Yet, she still didn’t change her ways. Lisa video chats with her boyfriend while he’s at the supermarket and she tells him what to buy. She tells him to get all the horrible stuff. It was just plain sugar. She then eats it or makes it. She has a skillet she can plug it at the side of her bed and she sometimes makes her own food. Lisa doesn’t let anything get in the way of her eating junk. She claims she’ll start eating right soon and that soon never pans out. It’s the same way with physical therapy. She keeps turning them away and so they called Dr. Now. He called Lisa. He told asked why she keeps resisting help and she tried to play dumb.

Lisa tried to pretend he was talking about a different patient. Like her file was sitting right in front of him as he was talking to her. He also asked her about her diet. She said she doesn’t know what diet she should be on. She therefore didn’t read the book he gave her because there’s only one diet in there and its quite effective. Lisa tried coming up with several excuses. Dr. Now ignored them all and he tried to tell her that there’s no miracle cure to make her lose the weight. He can’t bring her to Houston safely until she loses some weight. Lisa pretended to listen and then she went back to ignoring everything he said the moment the call was over.

Lisa even got into an argument with a physical therapist to came to see her. She threw her out of the house the moment the woman mentioned anything like exercise and she did the same with the second physical therapist she saw. Lisa doesn’t want to do the work. She was also emotionally unstable. Manipulative. She thought she could play everyone and she couldn’t with Dr. Now. Or others besides Randy. That’s the real reason why people don’t come around anymore. She also has a boyfriend who doesn’t want to lose weight because he was afraid she would leave him if she did and so he helps her sabotage herself.

Lisa’s main complaint with the physical therapist was that they were coming too late. As if she had plans or something when she’s stuck in bed all day. Lisa also tried to play that with Dr. Now and he told her that he couldn’t help as long as she kept lying. Lisa was basically on her own with just Randy as an emotional support and that’s how they both caught Covid. They later were rushed to the hospital after Lisa called 911. Sadly, she lost her boyfriend. But being on her own had forced her to really look at her life and she realized she has no one else to depend on. No one else who will do all the things that Randy did.

Lisa even reached out to Dr. Now. She hadn’t spoken to him in four months and that time she told him that she was finally ready to put in the work. She later got a home attendant, but this time they followed the diet and she also did the exercises. It helps that there was someone there pushing her to do it. Lisa also went to therapy. She saw Dr. Paradise. She did the work on her mental health and for the first time she seemed committed. She didn’t just say she was committed. She was committed. The physical therapist even came back. This time Lisa was willing to hear what the woman had to say and she didn’t argue with her. There was no back talk. She just did what she said.

Lisa’s attitude improved. Her sister came around and then it started to fall apart. She complained she was too tired to do exercises. She was doing some black-sliding that Dr. Now was worried about. He called her. He told her to cut it out. He even called it on her snacking and he told her that the snacking has to stop. She was eating three meals a day. She didn’t need snacking. She could stop it at any point. Lisa listened to Dr. Now. She heard his warning that this was the last time and she said she’s change but only time will tell on that one.

THE END!
