A day of sailing was ruined. Jesse was enjoying himself on a sailing trip with his teenage daughter Gracie when they came across pirates. The pirates used a distressing signal to board their boast using deception and unfortunately it was too late by the time Jesse realized something was wrong. But Jesse kept his head. He called Special Agent in Charge Tennant with his cell phone. He also told his daughter to tell no one they knew each other or that he was a federal agent. Jesse wanted to keep her safe most of all. He also tried looking for an opening to grab a gun and he once again found himself on a backfoot when the woman who pretended to be a hostage was in fact in charge. She pulled a gun on him.
She almost killed him, too. Jesse got tossed into the ocean as he was fighting for a gun and the boat drove off after it tossed him. The pirates found his cell phone. They turned it off. There was no way to track him or the boat and still, his team tried because it was him. They used a projection of the area the boat was in before its tracer was cut. The team didn’t even know if Jesse was alive or dead. They tried contacting his wife. She was on a hiking trip with the other kids in Wyoming and she wasn’t answering her phone. She, therefore, missed it when a ransom demand went out. The pirates sent ransom demands to the parents of each child on board.
They wanted a million dollars per child. Tennant and her team suspected the pirates boarded the sailboat to get to one person in particular and that they were using the ransom demand to throw suspicion. But they didn’t have eyes on the boat. When they later found it abandoned, they realized that pirates must have taken the hostages on the boat they came with. This meant the hostages and the pirates were on a boat they have no coordinates for and that the team had no clue had to track them down. They instead focused on the ransom demands. The demands were pretty sample and the account attached was easy enough to crack.
But it was a little too easy. It’s like the pirates had wanted that to be tracked and so Tennant suspected it wasn’t a real ransom demand. The ransom demand was actually a distraction. It was to keep them busy while the real target was being moved. Tennant spoke to the parents of each child on board. She met one mom that had acted cagey. Rebecca Hely would only see she was a widow. She didn’t go into details about why they had to move so much and she didn’t mention any other family. Once Tennant realized the ransom demand was a distraction, she asked her techie to follow her hunch by checking out Rebecca. And it’s a good thing too.
Rebecca was using a fake name. She met her husband in South America and he came from a prominent family, but her father-in-law was a domineering man who wanted her husband to take over the family business and he doesn’t take no for an answer. Rebecca and her husband went to extreme lengths to their son Adrian from his grandfather. Now that Rebecca’s husband is dead, the grandfather wants his grandson. The team now realizes that the grandfather was trying to kidnap Adrian. Everyone else was just dressing. The team went with the Coast Guard to look for the boat and they couldn’t find it on the seas.
It was the Coat Guard’s opinion that they must have landed somewhere. They were an island nearby and by the time the Coast Guard showed up – they were people on the beach flagging down for help. But Gracie wasn’t with the group and neither was Adrian. The pirates took Gracie along with them because they realized Jesse was her father and that he was still alive. They sent a search party to look for him on the island. Jesse caught up with them. He disarmed the men that were sent after him and he tied them up. He then went after his daughter. He later found her with a gun to her head but Gracie was able to extract herself from that one by fighting back.
After Gracie was able to push her captor away, Jesse used that distraction to start fighting the man. He was losing when backup finally arrived and they arrested the pirate. Their next step was getting to Adrian. They later found him before he could be boarded onto a helicopter and so they rescued him. They arrested the last of the pirates. They later delivered all the kids back to their parents. And Jesse was able to get through to his wife.
Heather was never going to go hiking again or allow Jesse and their daughter a chance to go sailing again.
