In tonight’s NCIS Hawaii episode, a couple of FBI Agents were murdered on the mainland three days ago. They were killed by known hitman by the name of Donovan Mance. Mance was on the run and those agents had been sent to arrest him. They waited for him at one of his known hideouts. They spotted him and they made their move, but somehow Mance was able to get the better of them and he killed them both.
He then went back on the run. This time he could be anywhere. The only thing that the FBI knew was that he was coming to the island. Mance had contacts in Hawaii. He was in communication with someone at a famous eatery and unfortunately the restaurant had several phones all with the same number. Making the idea to eliminate suspects impossible.
The only way forward was to send someone in undercover. Kai volunteered. Kai grew up working in his father’s restaurant and so he thought he was good enough to become a chef at this famous place. He even went to his dad’s for help. His father was making a memorial dinner for his late mother and Kai thought it was a waste of time because he said the man didn’t care about her health when she was sick.
If anything, his father had checked out at the worst possible time. Kai was still angry about it after all these years and so he didn’t care for the memorial dinner. He refuses to go. His father then asked what can he do to repair their relationship.
Kai didn’t answer him. But he did tell his dad that he needed a favor. There’s not a restaurant on the island that didn’t have someone his father hadn’t trained and so Kai asked for a good word to get into the restaurant he needed. His father provided that for him. Kai later got a job as a line cook.
He was doing real well until he stepped away from the line to investigate. No line cook should ever step away from the line without the head chef’s permission and so he got fired on his first day there. Kai was walking away when he saw someone getting beaten up and he stepped in. He ended up saving the guy’s life.
But the guy said he signed his death warrant. The guy that Kai saved was Chris Polis. He was the business partner to Head Chef Jenny Alika. Together they own the restaurant. Chris was clearly in trouble and the fact that Kai had to step in was big. Kai overheard Jenny and Chris arguing in the office about it.
Jenny felt so bad that she gave Kai back his job as a line cook. Kai later admitted to his team that he actually enjoys it. He loves cooking. It was one of the few things he could do with his dad and so it brought back happy memories. Kai was chatting up Jenny about what happened with her business partner when those same guys from earlier came back.
They tried to abduct her. But Mance stepped in. Mance killed the guys from earlier and he would have shot Kai as well, but Jenny stopped him. Mance’s daughter stopped him. Mance then promised he’s going to fix her problems and he left. He was on the run again. He managed to evade the police. Only Jenny now knows Kai is a cop because had to call it in once he saw Mance. Kai and Tennant later questioned Jenny.
She said that she didn’t know her father was a wanted man. She just knew he was a criminal. Its why her mother never put him on her birth certificate. It’s also why they didn’t have much contact until after she went away to France for culinary school.
Jenny had been given an old cell phone number of his. She reached out to him once she was feeling lonely and they developed a bond from there. Jenny also called her dad when she found out her business partner was using their restaurant to money launder some cash for a known drug trafficker.
The trafficker didn’t want to be bought out. He wanted to keep using the business for his own ends and it was Chris who got the restaurant in trouble. The team informed Chris about the situation. They told him that Mance probably blames him for getting his daughter in trouble and so Chris was happy to tell them everything he knew. In return for protection.
The team later arrested the drug trafficker. But then Mance ran the car off the road and killed the guy. He also managed to escape again. The team only found him by sitting on Jenny because they knew her father would stop by to say goodbye to her before he left. The team were able to arrest Mance then, but he didn’t mind because he did get the chance to say goodbye to his daughter and so he didn’t blame her for his capture.
Jenny got to keep her restaurant.
Kai ended up deciding to cook the memorial dinner with his dad.
THE END!
