IN tonight’s NCIS Los Angeles episode, Kensi was in trouble. She failed to check in with her husband Deeks. She has to check in with him on a set time on a set day or else it meant she was in trouble. It also meant her case took a turn. Kensi was investigating a serviceman. His name and rank is Marine Lance Corporal Benjamin Gomez. It was suspected that he was helping his cousin Raul Fuentes in a human smuggling operation and Kensi went looking for evidence and she disappeared around the same time that Fuentes’s signature was used to kill a bunch of migrants crossing over into the United States. Admiral Kilbride was alerted once Fuentes’s signature was spotted. He knew that it might affect Kensi and he reached out to her, but failed to make contact and so he spoke to Deeks. And Deeks also mentioned the missing check-in.

One of those things by themselves could be ignored. Both of those things together spelled out trouble for Kensi and so the team was brought into the investigation. Kilbride added Special Agent Aliyah DeLeon to the mix. They were short-handed with Kensi being gone, Callen off on his own, and Roundtree being off-screen. Aliyah turned out to be an old friend of Sam’s. He vouched for her with the team. It also didn’t hurt that Aliyah knew how to handle herself. She and Fatima went to question Gomez. They got a warrant to search his house and everything. Gomez tried to run when the feds knocked at his door and the ladies pursued him.

They were able to bring him down by working together. They detained him as they waited for backup to help secure the scene and they were actually on a phone call with the admiral to update him when they heard a sound from the shed. They asked Gomez what the sound was from. He claimed to have no knowledge of a sound much less know what it is and so the agents went there by announcing themselves as federal agents. They ended up finding a bunch of undocumented people who had been locked in the shed. It was clear they were being held against their will and still those people refused to talk.

They didn’t want to get sent back. But there was one woman. She recognized the photo of Kensi that was being showed around and she said that she was more afraid of the Americans than she was of the cartel. This woman apparently mentioned that they were “hunting” parties. A group of American soldiers will kill migrants rather than turn over to authorities and deport them. This woman told Fatima everything. She then passed on the message to both Deeks and Sam. They were using air support to look for Kensi and they were told about the hunting parties. It could be rednecks looking to fake authority they don’t have.

It could be rogue border agents. It also could also be Gomez’s fellow marines and so the agents questioned him. They even offered him a deal in exchange for ratting on his cousin. Gomez admitted to everything and he mentioned the group that Kensi was traveling with hadn’t showed up. When the migrants don’t do that, they were either taken or killed. This was passed onto Deeks and Sam and thankfully found a message left by Kensi. She left a small fire with her knife by it. She also wrote “11 Militia”. It was a rogue band of pretend servicemen and women. They thought they were saving the country by keeping out the drug smugglers and they failed to realize the people weren’t smugglers.

Most of the people they killed were innocent in all but one regard. They were crossing into the country because they were more terrified by what they were fleeing than they were by what they were facing in America and so this militia did nothing to solve the epidemic. They just killed people for some jumped up excuse. These people managed to find Kensi. She was trying to run away from them with an injured migrant teenager and so the teenager was the reason why she was caught by the militia. They also didn’t believe Kensi after she identified herself as a federal agent. They said she was helping people cross over and that she was guilty of treason.

The punishment for treason was death. The person leading the militia wanted to kill both women and one guy spoke against it and was killed by the others. But they were just about to kill Kensi and Rosa when Sam and Deeks came in. They identified themselves as federal agents. The militia tried shooting at them in order to avoid the arrest. Sam and Deeks got the better of them and were able to overpower them. They got the bad guys. They also rescued Kensi and Rosa. The team did good in spite of being short-staffed and Fatima had proved she could still do her job, but later she had needed time to herself because she wasn’t quite over being shot on the job.

Kilbride spoke with Fatima. He reassured her that needing more time doesn’t mean she’s any less of an agent than the others and that she didn’t need to rush back into things. She can take time off from being in the field.

Kensi meanwhile went home and she didn’t give up on Rosa. The authorities were going to look for Rosa’s family and, if no one could be found, she’d go into foster care.

THE END!
