In tonight’s NCIS: Los Angeles episode, Kensi doesn’t think she has a chance to become the fun parent. Not as long as she was co-parenting with Deeks anyways. Deeks was a fun guy. He has the cool surfer vibe down. Deeks also took a personal day to help his mother look for a new apartment nearby them and so Kensi was admitting her fears to Fatima when a new case came in. The team was brought in on an abduction. They had to find Rear Admiral Ted Gordon. Gordon was seen by his neighbors as well as his own security cameras being abducted from his home by two masked men. The team first wondered if he had been taken for ransom and yet they quickly realized Gordon wouldn’t have been the best bet for that.

Gordon doesn’t have a family. He never married or had children. He doesn’t even have any close family friends. It seems he lived for his job. Gordon was an engineer on a maritime project. He and his own team were building underwater robots. These same robots have been accused of infiltrating foreign waters, but it has never been proven and Gordon’s project wasn’t a secret from the American public. He actually did a public interview about it. He went on the Marcus Moore’s how. Moore was a techno-social media influencer and Gordon received approval to do the interview beforehand. As for the interview itself, it was harmless.

Gordon never revealed any serious intel. He gave basic answers that didn’t reveal much. Gordon had made it seem like he was the brains and the only man who could operate the underwater gliders. Only that had been a lie. Gordon had a whole team to help him navigate the grinders. He couldn’t operate it on his own and NCIS were worried he would be killed by his abductors once they found that out. It was imperative that they find Gordon fast. They went to his home to search for clues. They found that it had been ransacked. Gordon’s abductors had been looking for something and they didn’t find it.

But Sam and Callen did. Callen didn’t go disappear after Hetty just yet. He stayed behind long enough to be there when this case came in and it’s a good thing too. He and Sam figured out Gordon’s clues. Gordon had hidden his journal inside a boat model. The boat’s sails had the words “inside” written in morse code. The two agents broke open the model and they found the journal. Callen soon began to read the journal when it became clear that Gordon’s true passion was treasure hunting. Gordon was looking into a Spanish Galleon that sunk back in 1602. The ship was apparently carrying treasure onboard when it sunk.

One of the things that Gordon admitted in his interview was that his glinders could find a sunken ship. Gordon also admitted in his journal that he has a treasure map. The only person that Gordon told about the map was Meredith Huxley. She was a librarian. Gordon turned to her to validate his map as being from the seventeenth century and he got angry with her for holding onto his map. The team asked Meredith about it. She said she had to go out of town because her daughter just had a baby and she wanted to see her grandchild. She gave Gordon back the map the moment she returned to LA. And she wished him the best of luck on his treasure hunt.

Meredith didn’t seem to believe there was an actual treasure. Gordon had told her they found the ship debris with the glinder one day and she thought he was making it bigger than it was. But the team remembered that Gordon couldn’t operate the glinder on his own. He had to have had help. They turned back to Gordon’s coworker. They had spoken with Jesse Fiore early in the investigation. He was the one who called Gordon pompous. He also mentioned Gordon couldn’t use the glinder without him and so they went looking for him. They eventually found Jesse looking for Gordon’s map. Jesse had been in on the kidnapping.

Jesse wasn’t intentionally in on the kidnapping. He and Gordon found the missing ship. They found the map together. Gordon said he would get the gold by himself and that he would split with Jesse. Jesse hadn’t trusted Gordon. He, therefore, went online and started a treasure-hunting group with two sketchy guys he didn’t really know. Those guys kidnapped Gordon. They were all looking for a map because the treasure had been removed from the ship. Plus, there was a map that confirmed the treasure exists. It was Gordon who was holding onto the map. Jesse was trying to find it with help of his friends when NCIS caught up to them and manage to arrest Jesse. Now, Jesse didn’t know where his friends took Gordon, but the team continued their search.

They had all of Gordon’s notes. They were able to decipher all the clues and they figured out where the treasure was. It was located on a little island off the coast of California. It was also dangerous because the island has been used as a weapons testing sight and it was crawling with unexploded landmines. Sam and Callen went after Gordon. They were able to deal with the two men guarding him and they rescued Gordon. They didn’t bring him back to the mainland with them because Gordon decided to continue looking for the treasure. And he had his own boat

Gordon doesn’t have much. The team let him keep up his search. They only found out much later that was in fact treasure and that Gordon had claimed it.

As for Kensi, Fatima figured out a treasure hunt taking Rose all around the city would be a perfect way for Kensi to become the fun parent.

THE END!
