In tonight’s NCIS episode, an infamous arms dealer was released back out on the streets. Something that didn’t make sense. Reymundo Diaz was a dangerous man. He killed plenty of people during his first chance on the outside and granting him a second one seemed a mistake. In fact, it wasn’t long after he was released that Diaz became the suspect in numerous homicides.
Those cases got assigned to NCIS because of the arms dealing that was involved when several men were killed and that’s how Special Agent Torres learned of Diaz. He hadn’t known before that Diaz was back out on the street. He was unfortunately going about his day like any other and he had even attended the professional assessment he was ordered to do. And so therapy wasn’t fun.
But then people started to die. There was a witness to the event and he came forward to identify Diaz as the killer. He said that Diaz killed his friends because he was looking for someone. Someone by the name of Carlos Salazar. Parker was trying to figure out who that was when Torres came forward and he admitted he was “Carlos”.
Carlos was the persona he took while he was investigating Diaz in a joint military task force. He got into Diaz’s inner circle by dating Diaz’s cousin Maria and by convincing Maria to flip on Diaz. He was able to do that because he lied to Maria. He told her that he would join her in Witness Protection.
Maria never knew she was being played until she went into protective detail with no sign of the man she left everything for. Maria was never told that Torres was a federal agent. Neither she nor her family ever knew Carlos’s real identity. But then somehow Diaz got released.
He apparently used most of his savings to buy his way out of a Mexican jail cell. He then gathered his men. They helped him sneak into Texas. He started looking for Carlos the moment he walked on American soil and he was killing everyone that got in the way or who wasn’t needed. Eventually, he killed enough men to figure out that his old friend Carlos was a federal agent.
Diaz wanted Torres dead. He wanted everyone he considered a “rat” to be dead. Torres became concerned for Maria and so his team reached out to the US Marshalls. They helped Torres get to her apartment. Only she wasn’t there. There was evidence of a struggle and blood found at the scene. Torres flipped out when he thought Maria had been taken or killed. He attacked the US Marshall escorting him because he thought the man had failed Maria, but Parker stepped in. He got Torres to calm down and Torres went back to his hotel room in the area. He was there when guess who comes knocking at his door?
Maria! She was covered in blood and was otherwise fine. Maria claims that she was at her apartment when one of Diaz’s men attacked her and she was able to fight him off. She said the blood belonged to the man who tried to kill her. She also said she wasn’t going back into WitSec. Maria had hated her time there and she didn’t want to deal with the US Marshalls. She instead wanted to take her chances on the outside. She didn’t want to hide anymore. Maria had been a successful artist before she went into protection and she had to give that all up. She had to change her name, move from everything and everyone she knew, and become a telemarketer.
Maria hated her new life. She didn’t want to go back to it. She also blamed Torres for it. Torres was the one who lied to her and convinced her to turn on the cousin she had once been so close to. Maria didn’t find out until she was put in WitSec what Carlos’s real name was. She and Torres were still talking about that betrayal when Torres got a call from his team. They tracked down the man that attacked Maria. They went after him. They didn’t find him and instead they found a dead US Marshall who appeared to be tortured before he was killed. Unfortunately for everyone, this was the same Marshall that knew where Maria and Torres were.
Torres got the warning for his team that Diaz knew his location. He got out his gun. He even gave Maria a gun and together they were able to take down Diaz and his backup. Diaz was now dead. The threat to their lives was over and so Maria couldn’t wait to leave WitSec. She hated her persona. She was an artist. She wanted to back to making art and she wanted to see her mom. She hadn’t seen her mother in six years. She dearly misses her.
And before Maria left town, Torres and her talked. He told her that if she ever needed anything that she could reach out to him and that he would be there for her. And surprisingly she believed him.
Torres had to go back to sessions with Dr. Grace and this time he was more cooperative. He admitted that he wanted to be sober. And how that’s been a problem for him lately.
THE END!
