Tonight’s New Amsterdam episode begins with a man with a woman, Joanne Donovan, he takes care of her through her progression of some kind of illness until she passes away.
Iggy is in the gym working out, he has been lifting for two weeks now, he feels alive, and he is different.
At an AA meeting, Lauren says she has been clean for some time and she moved in with her sister to help her, but all she did was hurt herself. Stop going to meetings, and stop calling her sponsor. She became her addiction. She says she is Lauren and she is an addict.
Max arrives at the hospital and gets a coffee for Elizabeth, the thing is, she got one for him. He says great minds think alike. He says he is sorry for bringing her in early, and she says she is happy to be there.
Iggy is with a patient who says his depression is gone, the week before he was on the edge of a cliff. Iggy is so happy. The patient says he hasn’t been doing his exercises, he finally spoke to his mother, and she owned up to her mistakes. His late mother. Solomon held him, the janitor, he is psychic.
In the ER, lots of cases are coming in, beauty pageants, and the stage collapsed. Most of the girls are teenagers, they are hurt badly. Marvella, the pageant MC, is walking around and telling the girls they are warriors and are going to be ok, she promises. One girl asks Lauren if “they” are going to get her, the CIA, they have been staring at her and she wants it to stop. It is just some medical staff doing their jobs. Lauren ordered a CT scan for her to see what is going on. Marvella is continuing her enthusiasm for everyone to get better, says the show must go on, and then,, she collapses.
Max is sitting in his office when a man walks in and says he is not going to get away with stealing his mom’s house. He says his mom left her home at the hospital, she was tricked into donating it and he is there to get it back.
The man who was with Joanne Donovan, works in the hospital, his team works with patients, they do things for them, and build relationships and he says the people donate to them. Max says he is preying on their patients.
Iggy goes to Solomon and tells him a patient of his believes he connected him with a deceased patient. Iggy says he appreciates what he did, but it interferes with therapy. Solomon says he is honoring souls’ wishes. Iggy lets him know that he can no longer do it in the hospital.
Marvella is getting an MRI and she doesn’t stop talking about pageants, her heart, and her soul. Floyd finds a broken rib.
The girl was seeing the CIA, and her toxicology report came back with a substance called THC, and she overdosed. Her mother tells Lauren she is the one who buys it for her daughter and doesn’t believe that she could have overdosed on it.
Iggy sees Gia in the hallway crying, she spoke to Brian, her deceased husband and he is not in pain anymore, thanks to Solomon.
Max is with Joanne Donovan’s son, she tells him that he is right, and his mother decided to donate the home to the hospital. For those months, when his mother needed something, the bequest office was there for her, because nobody else was. He tells Max that he was deployed for the last two years, but he couldn’t be. He handled her bills and checked in on her whenever he could. Before she passed, he got on hardship leave so he could get her affairs in order, but New Amsterdam did that, then he tells him that he will see him in court.
Iggy calls Solomon to his office, who says he cannot control his ability to speak to souls, it takes over his spirit, it’s random, and the messages come. It has been happening since he was ten, it’s passed down by his family, and his father had it. Iggy says it sounds like temporal lobe epilepsy.
Marvella is in surgery, Floyd removes the broken piece of her rib and while he is there, he sees that she needs a heart transplant.
Max looks into Joanne Danova’s file and sees that there is a Psychiatry Consult, she had late onset of Dementia.
Lauren cannot believe that a mother would supply her own daughter with drugs. The mother said her daughter wanted to try it, and she wasn’t asking her permission, she was worried she would buy it on the street, so she bought it from a reputable dispensary. Lauren says that THC makes the weed more addictive, it is not the same drug as when she was a kid. All of a sudden, her daughter has gone missing, Lauren finds her outside, dancing on the top of a car, and falls off. She is brought back into the hospital and the girl now has a shattered pelvis.
Elizabeth thought one of the girls was anorexic, but it turns out, she has lymphoma.
Floyd goes to speak to Marvella and she is refused to go on the list of transplants because of her age. He says he is going to try to figure this out, she says no favors, let the younger people have the heart, it’s her time.
Iggy does some tests on Solomon, they are negative. So he wants to do more tests and put him on low meds for seizures. Solomon says there is someone there who has a message for him, his brother, short fuse says he is sorry for the way he treated him. He is showing him his left wrist, he says he is proud of him, to stay the course.
Max shuts down the bequest program, now that he has found out that they were targeting dementia patients. Max demands that Mrs. Donava’s home be given back to her son. After further investigation, she donated the house a year and a half before her diagnosis, and the donation stands.
Floyd goes to court, his father is in a hearing, and he says he wants to go home. The judge says he can’t release him unless e has someone to take care of him and he says he has no family, he is all he got. Floyd stands up and says he is his son, he can go with him, and he will take care of him, his dad complies.
Max can’t get the house to go back to her son, but it is going to go to veterans, all the proceeds are going to New Amsterdam wounded veterans program.
Iggy is dropping things off for the kids and Martin tells him he looks different, in a good way.
Lauren is about to leave the hospital when her sister Vanessa walks in. She tells Lauren that mom is dead.
Max asks Elizabeth out to dinner, she asks if it is like a date, and he says yes. To which, she says no.
