Tonight’s The Amazing Race episode begins with all teams now traveling two thousand miles from the kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Island, the land of fire and ice. Teams will go on an Expedia-inspired adventure visiting some of the most amazing destinations on the Expedia app. Once they arrive in Iceland, they board helicopters to take them to the start line.
The teams are dropped off on a huge patch of ice and snow. 10% of Iceland is covered in glaciers, thick ice that slowly moves across the landscape. Teams will begin their adventure by climbing one called Solheimajokull Ice Climb. Teams must climb to the top of the glacier, one at a time, to retrieve an Icelandic flag. When both flags are retrieved, they will get their next clue. Aubrey & Luis, Michelle & David, are all in the first group. Once completed, teams must make their way to Fljoshligarfoss to find their next clue.
The second team arrives at the ice climb, Emily & Molly and Derek & Claire, and it doesn’t take them long to complete it. Surprisingly, Derek & Claire got themselves in the first place and get the next clue, it’s a Roadblock, “whose feeling misty-eyed?” Teams have to abseil 100 feet into the cave where they will find a clue. They will then continue the rest of the course, jumping, swimming, and sliding back down to reunite with their partner. Derek is the first one to do the challenge and he loves it, calls it superfine, it is purely physical and lots of fun.
David is having a hard time, he is in the cave and he can’t swim. Luis is down next and sees the clue, he takes it and leaves. David sees him and heads over there, he didn’t see the clues at first.
Derek & Claire are still in the first place and have their next clue, they must get themselves to Silfra Fissure, Thingvellir National Park.
It’s time for an Expedia experience, In Silfra Fissure Snorkel, “swim the Silfra Fissure where the Eurasian and North American atonic plates collide.” Teams must look out for the names of 14 volcanos and the years they erupted. Relying only on memory they need to match the names and dates in front of a volcanologist to receive their next clue. If they are incorrect, they must do the swim all over again. Teams must first gear up in scuba diving suits. The water is freezing, this is going to be tough. Although Claire is thrilled, she grew up in the water, yet not this cold. David is a little concerned about his swimming, but it does or dies, he is not giving up.
Derek & Claire complete it on the first try and must now make their way to Gullfoss falls, the next put-stop for this leg of the race.
Derek & Claire are team number one to arrive at the pit stop, they have one Expedia point good for a five-night stay in London. And, they are one of three teams who will be racing to the finish line for the million dollars.
Emily & Molly complete the 2nd attempt.
Luis & Michelle are team number two and will also be racing the finish line.
Aubrey & David can’t complete it, they are going to take the penalty, it is 2 hours, but they have no choice because of David’s inability to swim and the cold water.
Emily & Molly are team number three and will be racing to the finish line.
Aubrey & David arrive at the pit stop and are eliminated from the race.
THE END!
