The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers tease that Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe) revealed a near-death experience and opened up about the filming injury that almost killed the now B&B star.
In an interview with DailyMail.com, Kanan talked about working on The Karate Kid Part III back in 1989.
Unfortunately, Kanan has some pretty terrifying memories of that time in his life.
After working on the film for about six weeks, production took a break for Christmas.
Kanan noticed some pain in his thigh, but he didn’t think much of it at first since he’d been doing so much karate for the movie.
However, Kanan soon learned it’d take far more than aspirin to treat this particular injury.
While at a Las Vegas casino during the hiatus, Kanan passed out and was rushed to the hospital.
The pain that Kanan had been grappling with turned out to be from internal bleeding, so this suddenly became a matter of life and death.
Kanan’s doctors admitted they weren’t sure they could save him, so he called it “the scariest thing that’s ever happened” to him.
Even once he survived, Kanan had to worry about whether he could recover in time to be kept in the film.
Instead of having sympathy for Kanan’s ordeal, the studio called and gave him about 12 days to get back to work.
Kanan was threatened with a potential recast, so he took drastic action to avoid getting replaced.
Since his doctors were able to avoid cutting his abdominal muscles, Kanan shortened his recovery time and wound up pushing for his discharge against medical advice.
Although there was some talk about having a stunt double do the rest of Kanan’s more strenuous scenes, he pushed through the pain and did almost all of them himself.
It was a horrible experience, it was also a defining one that Kanan said he wouldn’t trade.
Kanan called it “a hell of a story,” but we’re just grateful he pulled through and could carry on his career after his big break!
