Aunt Vi might be starting a new romance. Or in her case, she was reconnecting with an old romance. Vi got back into contact with an old flame and they’ve gotten pretty friendly lately. Vi was even traveling all the way to Connecticut to see her. her niece McCall asked Vi to drop off Delilah at school before she went. McCall couldn’t do it because she wanted to check on Dante. Detective Dante was no longer a detective. He turned in his badge after he was wrongfully imprisoned and almost killed by corrupt cops. But Dante made it out. He’s safe now. He just doesn’t feel safe any longer and that’s why he turned in his badge.
Dante wasn’t himself. He hasn’t been himself since the incident and he wasn’t taking any advice either. He refuses to talk to someone about what he went through. He was focused on physical therapy and most importantly his children. His children were also traumatized by what Dante experienced. They almost lost their father. They were scared of losing him again. They now follow him everywhere and Dante was putting on the front that he was fine so that his kids would believe it themselves. But he wasn’t fine. Dante still has a hard time recovering from what happened. His sense of safety was taken from him and it’s hard to get back.
McCall was visiting Dante when she got a call. An emergency signal from an old friend sent her running. McCall went to the friend’s place and she found her friend murdered on the floor. She also came across a CIA Officer. The officer was Marcela Mendez’s handler. He wanted to check in on her when he hadn’t heard from her and he came to find her dead. The guy hadn’t wanted to talk to McCall at first. The CIA’s policy is that once someone’s out there out for good. There was no contacting them and yet this guy was smart enough to realize McCall wasn’t just anyone. He told her about Marcela’s last case.
Marcela had been working on a defection case. Chen Ying was a Chinese translator working at the UN when she came to Marcela offering to trade information for American protection. But Chen got called back to China before she could give them information and she was later found murdered on Chinese soil. McCall came to believe her friend was murdered because of her connection to Chen. McCall contacted her friends Harry and Mel. She had them look into Chen. They didn’t find much and so McCall got their help in forging papers to get into the UN. She met with Chen’s friend. She noticed that the friend was wearing Chen’s bracelet and so she asked about it.
It turns out that Chen gave her friend that jewelry before she was sent back home. McCall grabbed it and it turns out the bracelet was a piece of data. It even had a USB outlet. McCall had her friends look into it and it revealed that McCall’s old nemesis Mason Quinn was back in town. He’s the guy that tried to kill McCall. He was also the guy that the CIA freed during a prisoner exchange. They released a very dangerous man and McCall wasn’t even given information about his release. Not when people knew their history or that McCall risked everything to take him down. McCall found out about it afterward.
McCall also asked her mentor, Bishop, about it. Bishop gave her a file on Quinn that he asked her to never open or risk going down a rabbit hole. But McCall opened that file once she started believing Quinn was involved in Marcela’s death. Marcela had been more than a friend. She was someone that McCall personally trained and she herself was a mentor to the younger woman. Marcela dying. To be specific dying after she asked McCall for help, was something personal to McCall. She was justice for Marcela. Perhaps even justice for Chen. Chen’s bracelet revealed that Quinn was buying something. McCall didn’t know what at first.
Not until she enlisted Marcela’s handler. Griffin was able to put the pieces together for her and she figured out that Quinn was in town buying an EMP from a Russian scientist. This scientist created a device that could take down planes without anyone knowing. He was going to sell it to Quinn. McCall needed to stop it and she hadn’t wanted to involve her friends. She chose instead to take Griffin. They went to the storage site to grab the weapon. It wasn’t there. The weapon was taken out to be used in a demonstration and McCall and Griffin was supposed to stop it, but Griffin proved to be an inept backup.
The guy got captured by Quinn. Quinn then grabbed McCall and she was forced to watch the demonstration. The demonstration of the weapon wasn’t going to be carried on any just plane. It was going to be done on Bishop’s plane. Bishop was flying into the country. Somehow, Quinn found out. Harry also found out. He tried to warn Bishop in time and it wasn’t enough. Quinn took down the plane. He killed everyone onboard. This included Bishop. McCall just had to watch. She tried to stop it and it was too late. Bishop was killed.
Quinn was then going to kill both McCall and Griffin and fortunately, they were able to fight back. They were able to do so because Mel showed up. She ignored McCall’s warning to sit this one out. Mel saved them. They also got a hold of the weapon. But Quinn escaped. He got away on a helicopter and McCall had the chance to take down the plane, but to do so would have killed hundreds in Queens because Quinn was flying over a residential area and so McCall just had to watch him escape.
She later got a call that she hoped was from Bishop because his plane was never found but instead was from Quinn warning her not to get in his way again.
And so afterward, McCall decompressed by going to Dante’s.
