In tonight’s The Resident episode, Billie was taking a risk by going public. She wanted to go before the medical board to say that Dr. Robert Porter raped her as a teenager and that he’s a pedophile. But to do this, she’s risking her own good name as well as any future she might have had if she hadn’t said anything. It was going to go public. It was potentially going to reach the media and Billie was hoping it would reach other victims too. It will help her in the long run if she wasn’t alone in standing up against Porter. Everything has to had happen fast because it needed to take place before Porter is named to the medical board and so Billie sorta has Bell to thank for giving her the push she needed.
Bell was in the running against Porter to be named on the medical board. He went to Billie for a recommendation and that’s when he mentioned Porter was in the running. The chance of Porter being in charged of ethical complaints was the push Billie needed to finally come forward. But since she did, she hasn’t heard anything about it. She asked Bell if Porter was still in the running and he said the other man was. He also asked why he wouldn’t be. Billie claimed to have heard about several violations against Porter and yet Bell became curious. He started asking around to see if there was anything to what Billie might have heard.
Bell was doing this as Irving’s brother-in-law came into the OR. Irving missed it but Jessica’s family was holding a gender reveal party for their new baby and they used an actual cannon that was supposed to be modified to release either blue or pink smoke when the damn thing backfired. It released buck shot into the poor father who got too close. Will came in with a collapsed lung. It also doesn’t help that the incident was posted on social media and everyone is calling him and his wife losers for having a gender reveal in the first place. Its apparently seen as dumb now for introducing “gender normative”.
Will wasn’t so focused on the social media backlash. His wife on the other hand was reading all of it and it was freaking her out because she has both a sick husband as well as a brand that was being ruined. Jessica’s sister Scarlett used to be all about social media. She’s now learning the pitfalls of having such a big presence and she wasn’t the only one. Conrad and AJ was treating an influencer who came in with complications of a Brazilian butt lift. It was the most complicated form of plastic surgery because of the high death rates and it didn’t help that the patient fell into a coma. The doctors still had her cell phone and so they answered when Enhanced Dreams Plastic Surgery called.
They told the receptionist at the other end that Charli has had complications. They asked for details about the surgery and that’s when the receptionist hung up on them. They tried calling her back but those people refused to answer their phones and they were probably destroying evidence around the same time that the doctors were trying to save Charli’s life. No one should have to die because of plastic surgery. The doctors were doing their best when Conrad stepped away to sit in on Bell’s surgery. Bell was performing surgery on Will to remove the shrapnel. It was his first surgery since he was diagnosed with MS and so he felt a little unsure about it.
Bell asked Jessica to scrub in as his nurse because he needed the help. Bell spoke with Leela and she gave him the confidence to try surgery much less succeed at it and that’s what he did. He successfully removed all forms of shrapnel. He saved Will’s life. He was back in good form and Conrad said as much. Then Bell found out about the medical board job. He later learned that he was rejected and that they did so because they thought it was highly suspicious that same person who wrote his recommendation had also filed a complaint against Porter. They thought she did it as a way to ensure Bell got the job.
Only Bell hadn’t known about the complaint. It was when he heard it from the Lt Governor that he realized Billie had been behind it and so he tried asking her about it but she didn’t have the time to talk. She had to perform surgery on Charli. She didn’t have the capacity of dealing with the fact that the Governor as well as the medical board were siding with Porter. They were even going to give him the job after everything Billie said because they didn’t believe her and so this was going to get buried. On top of everything else, it made Billie believe that Leela shouldn’t double board certify because her mind will be elsewhere during neurosurgery.
Bell found out from Kit about what happened to Billie. He naturally sided with Billie and they both talked to her about what happens next. If Billie is unable to back up her claims, she will be ruined by Porter who now knows what she’s been saying. Billie had been promised anonymity and the Governor’s office broke that when they snitched on her to Bell.
Will was okay, Charli was okay. Charli later woke up and she instantly went back on social media while Will and his wife Scarlett were just happy to be having a boy.
Porter meanwhile threatened Billie. He said he’d ruined her career if she didn’t withdraw the complaint.
THE END!
