In tonight’s The Rookie: FedsA camper is attacked in the woods by what appears to be an animal. He videos the attack as he is dragged away.
Simone wakes up to her arch-nemesis from high school. He is overdoing her dad’s taxes. Carter calls. They need to get a move on. They are needed in the woods. They meet the rest of the team. They are looking for an important researcher who works for the government. He was out in the woods looking for Big Foot. Simone laughs. They are serious. They find a camera. They also find hair. They bring the evidence back to the office.
Brendan gives Laura a gift for her birthday. When she guesses it’s an expensive pen, he takes it back. He is known for his gift-giving. He needs to do better. He visits the lab. He reveals to the tech, who appears to be a possible love interest, that he gave away. She is annoyed.
Carter and Simone hear noises in a bush. They see a teen with a backpack come out. They notice he has the researcher’s backpack. The teen seizes on the ground. He is brought to the hospital where they discover he has radiation exposure.
They head back to the woods, all suited up, and find a bunker with their researcher and biohazard material. Someone is trying to make a bomb. Matt heads to hold a press conference. They believe there is a bomb in the city somewhere. The LA PD will be helping.
Simone and Carter question the young teen about the bomb in the hospital. He tells them he isn’t guilty. He is a boon docker. Hey does give them a lead on a white 50-something male with a dirty jacket that brings things into the woods? Later, they get the man’s identity because of evidence left behind. They locate his son who tells them he doesn’t like his dad and asked for no contact. The son finally admits he received a letter this morning after some coaxing from Simone. They have the location of his next target, a public park. They head there and come face-to-face with their bomber.
Simone manages to talk to the bomber so the team can move in and then take him down. Brendon manages to drop the bomber to the ground. They still need to find the radiation.
Brendon continues to bug Laura about things in her life so he can find the best gift. Meanwhile, Simone takes a call from Greg, the CPA who thinks her father’s business partner is taking money secretly. She will look into it. She calls her dad right away. He needs to return her call. He better not be ghosting her.
After some more digging, they learn their bomber has a second bomb out there and it doesn’t seem like he will be giving up the info before he dies. Simone gets the bomber’s son to go back with her. The bomber quotes the book of revelations. After some research, they determine his next target.
Simone’s dad calls. He knows his partner is stealing and he must have a good reason. He doesn’t need her to intervene. She breaks the rules at the end of the call and tells him to get out of the city. Carter hears her and ends the call for her.
In the car, Carter reprimands Simone. She couldn’t help it. She is sorry. The team discovers where the bomb is and heads there. Now they need to physically find it in the oil dispensary. Simone and Carter find it first and must shut it off. Carter’s hands won’t fit. Simone must do it. She manages to cut the correct wire.
Brendon makes good on his gift to Laura and makes up with his tech in the lab. He gives Laura tickets to skydive and he is going too. He also gives her back the pen. Simone arrives home. Her father worked out his issues with his partner. Simone also makes good with the CPA. Her dad also drops a hint about her saving the world even if she cannot say anything.
The next day, Matt calls them in to tell them about their researcher and Big Foot hunter. He shows them the video footage and it does look like there is a Big Foot. Carter is shocked. They are all speechless!
