The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) will likely feud over Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd). This seems to be Y&R’s answer to the dropped Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) story, so let’s talk about what’s in store.
It’s obvious that the writers had a major storyline for Chelsea, Rey and Sharon planned before the decision came to kill Rey off.
Chelsea had been growing closer to Rey and even had a steamy dream about him.
Of course, Sharon was also getting territorial about her husband. She knows how Chelsea operates and realized that meant she had to stay on guard.
Y&R had all the makings of a great love triangle, but Rey’s death killed the drama, too.
Now the show has to shift gears in a hurry – and the easiest way to do that is to adjust the story for a different love triangle with another married man.
Although Chelsea will certainly share some close moments with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) along the way, it’d feel like a step backward if she reunited with him right now.
Chelsea has worked hard to finally get over Adam – and the show seems pretty committed to Adam’s pairing with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope).
It’s Chance and Abby’s relationship that could end up in trouble, especially if Chelsea pounces on Abby’s husband in her own time of need.
This is an easy adjustment to make since Rey was Chance’s partner and good friend. It makes sense for Chance and Chelsea to bond in their grief.
Plus, Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) looks up to Chance and will need help dealing with his guilt over what happened to Rey.
It’s not Connor’s fault, but he’s bound to be haunted over how he pushed Rey to hurry back with the tickets.
Chance knows a thing or two about blaming himself for something beyond his control and can help Connor through this.
It’ll serve as an opportunity for Chance to feel useful and let something good come out of his trauma.
Chance seems to view Abby as the perfect woman, so he may be drawn to less-than-perfect Chelsea – the former con artist who’s trying to move on from her many mistakes.
Chelsea and Abby have developed a nice friendship, but that could be blown to smithereens soon enough.
Once Chelsea inevitably takes a romantic interest in Chance, it may not take long for Abby to figure it out and fight to protect what’s hers!
