The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Wednesday, August 17, reveals that Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) Italy surprise will be derailed when Summer Newman-Abbott (Allison Lanier) catches a mystery meeting on the GCAC rooftop.
At the ranch, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will wonder if Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) has taken steps to damage Diane Jenkins’ (Susan Walters) reputation yet.
Phyllis will point out that it’s going to take time and will act like she’s the only one doing the real work here.
However, Nikki will note that she’s got a meeting with an LA-based reporter regarding a juicy Diane story.
After Phyllis convinces Nikki to let her join in, they’ll head to the athletic club roof deck to see Talia Morgan (Natalie Morales).
Nearby at a table for two, Kyle will surprise Summer with some reminders of their favorite rooftop bar in Milan.
As they enjoy some special drinks and familiar menu items, Summer and Kyle will appreciate having this little taste of Italy.
Unfortunately, Summer will get distracted by Phyllis and Nikki’s weird meeting.
It’ll leave Summer feeling like there’s something wrong with that picture since her mom and grandma barely get along.
Once Talia joins Nikki and Phyllis, Nikki will explain how Talia got in touch about doing an article on Ashland Locke’s (Robert Newman) death and the impact on the family.
After Nikki insisted it was old news, she pitched a story on Diane’s resurrection instead.
Talia will think that’s something her magazine readers will really be interested in.
Once Talia shares how she wants to talk to Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) as part of her research, she’ll also express curiosity about Diane’s years in LA.
Since Nikki wasn’t able to dig up any LA dirt, Phyllis will ultimately suggest a strategy shift.
If Talia focuses on Diane’s time in Genoa City, then Phyllis and Nikki can help her with all the necessary access for her investigation.
Once Talia vows to be in touch, she’ll take off – giving Summer a chance to corner Phyllis and Nikki about who that woman was.
Nikki will have to run, but she’ll insist Talia reached out about an Ashland story before she goes.
Phyllis will back Nikki up, but Summer just won’t buy what her mom’s selling.
At Jabot, Diane will visit Jack’s office after-hours and realize his dinner meeting was canceled. Once Diane invites Jack to dine with her at Society, he’ll eventually get on board.
Over a meal together, Diane will confess to being nervous and fearful when she first came back to GC.
Now Diane will mostly feel excitement over all the good things happening in her life.
When it comes to Phyllis’ new job at Marchetti, Diane will vow to take the high road and be on the lookout for her rival’s agenda.
Although Diane will admit to empathizing with Phyllis and understanding why she’d feel threatened, she’ll wish Phyllis would relax and see that there’s enough love to go around.
Diane won’t think Phyllis’ role as a grandmother is at risk – and she’ll point out that Summer adores her mom.
There’ll also be talk about Jack’s potential reunion with Phyllis on Wednesday’s Y&R episode.
Diane will contend that it might still happen since Jack has opened up his heart to Phyllis time and time again.
Jack will shut down that discussion, but Diane will act like it’s best for Phyllis to let go of all the jealousy and resentment.
After Diane suggests she should know from experience, Jack will appreciate Diane’s candor and insight.
At Chancellor Winters, Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) will show up looking for Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), but she’ll find Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) instead.
Devon will sense that Elena seems upset, so he’ll wonder what’s wrong.
Elena will admit to drifting apart from Nate lately and will acknowledge that things don’t always go as expected.
Devon will understand that, but he’ll note that Nate will always be family – and he’ll consider Elena his family, too.
After Devon says it’s nice that they’re still so close and that Elena lives just across the hall, she’ll feel the same way.
At Crimson Lights, Nate will meet with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) in a low-key environment to discuss his issues with Devon.
That’ll give Nate a chance to complain about Devon’s ego and inflexibility.
Nate will feel like Devon shuts down his ideas simply because they come from him.
Once Lily really listens to what Nate has to say, he’ll seem more hopeful about improving the situation.
Lily will urge Nate to let her figure out the next step with Devon and will head back to the office.
That’s where Lily will pitch one of Nate’s ideas as if it were her own – and Devon will respond positively to it.
After Lily admits the idea actually came from Nate, Devon will get upset over the trick and act like Lily needs to butt out.
Lily will seem frustrated as Devon stomps off.
Back at the coffeehouse, Nate will give Elena updates on his meeting with Lily.
Although Nate will act like things are going to change, Elena will warn that Devon might push back harder than Nate thinks.
After Elena gets called to work early, she’ll seem down as she tells Nate not to wait up.
Once Elena is gone, Devon will arrive to confront Nate over Lily and ask what he’s trying to pull.
The Young and the Restless spoilers say Nate and Devon are gearing up for another round of battle, so stay tuned!
