The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Jesse Gaines (Jamison Jones) could get deadly revenge if he kills Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) and frames Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) for payback. Could Gaines be revealed as the killer in a possible murder mystery?
Y&R fans know Gaines blackmailed Ashland over his past and got payments for years.
Gaines eventually tried to derail Ashland’s wedding to Victoria Newman-Locke (Amelia Heinle), but Adam helped Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) squash the threat.
Later, Victor and Adam forced Gaines to help them protect Ashland, which was about the last thing Gaines wanted to do!
Gaines recanted the story he gave Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and had to act like he made up all the accusations against Ashland.
Gaines even went through what had to be a humiliating press conference to claim he was a liar and point the finger at Billy for not fact-checking.
Although Gaines was given money and sent on his way, it’s easy to see how he might have unfinished business with both Ashland and the Newmans.
There have been some hints about a potential murder mystery coming up with Ashland as the victim.
If that happens, the show probably won’t make some main character a murderer.
This could turn into another scenario like when Chance Chancellor (now played by Conner Floyd) took a bullet from Adam.
The show didn’t want to make the shooter someone that fans would hate to lose to a prison stint.
No one wants any important characters to be forced into an exit.
Instead, Y&R took the easy way out and made Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico) the shooter.
Alyssa went down for premeditated attempted murder – and that was that.
The mystery was wrapped up all neat and tidy without losing any significant characters to a lengthy stint in the slammer.
The show could take a similar route if Ashland bites the dust.
Gaines still loathes Ashland and no doubt hates the Newmans for what they made him do.
Perhaps Gaines could murder Ashland and frame Victor’s son as a way to hurt all parties involved.
Could Gaines set Adam up to take the fall for his own vengeful crime?
Gaines is the perfect throwaway character to make responsible for Ashland’s demise.
By setting Adam up, that could drag out the drama until the truth comes out that Gaines was behind the murder.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that things will play out that way, but it’s a possibility worth mulling over.
