Tonight’s This Is Us episode begins with Rebecca teaching Kate how to play the piano, jack walks in and records it. Fast forward to when Kate was a teenager getting ready to go out, she comes out and Rebecca and Miguel are watching TV, she tells them she is going to Molly’s house. Kate leaves and Miguel turns off the TV, he tells her that a friend of his work told him about speed dating, 15 dates, 15 minutes at a time, it’s time, she just can’t sit there with him every night for the rest of her life.
Rebecca is at Kate’s house feeding Hailey because Toby is out of town. Just then, Toby calls to check in, he tells Kate that he was invited to the boss’s yacht to watch a game tomorrow. She tells him to go and have fun, as long as he explains to her what a modest yacht is. Rebecca offers to stay with the kids tomorrow while Kate is at the school.
Kevin comes in with the twins, they were out for a walk in the stroller. Madison asks if it is ok if she take the kids to the zoo for the first time, Kevin says ok. Kevin calls Cassidy and invites to the cabin, he tells her that Nicky will be there with his new girlfriend.
Randall arrives home, Beth is cooking and he kisses her then says it was a crappy lunch. But, its Friday night and he has the weekend ahead of him with his beautiful wife. She tells him that Malik is in town for 24 hours and Deja wants them to make dinner for them to talk. Beth says she hopes an apology but she doesn’t know. Randall says she is probably pregnant. Beth says maybe Deja wants to adopt Malik’s daughter.
We go back to when Miguel and Rebecca both participate in the speed dating, Rebecca recognizes one of the men from the PTA, Matt.
Kevin calls Randall and tells him about his upcoming weekend at the cabin. He tells him to remember the last time he tried to have a one night stand, he had twins. Randall tells him to have fun at his couples retreat and try not to propose.
At the cabin, after dinner Kevin tells Nicky that his date seems lovely. Kevin asks Cassidy if she wants to help Nicky oversee the construction on our free time. Later, Kevin and Cassidy go out for ice cream. He goes to hold her hand and she pulls back. She tells him that there is no reality to a relationship working between them. She tells him that he should instead make things right between himself and Madison.
At Randall and Beth’s house, it is Saturday night dinner and Malik apologizes to them for what happened the week before in Boston. Deja announces that she is finishing out the semester in school then moving to Boston with Malik. Randall asks if they are joking. Beth tells the other two girls to leave the table. Randall tells her that she is too young and Deja is quick to tell him that she has lived more of a life in her seventeen years than all of them and he has always said that she was wise beyond her years. Randall leaves the table.
Malik later follows Randall outside and sits down on the step beside him. Randall apologizes for leaving the table, but he wasn’t expecting that conversation. He tells her that he needs to end it, do it for Deja. Leaving home, moving six hours away and moving in with an eighteen year old and his daughter is not the right thing for Deja. Malik tells him that he is not going to tell Deja about this conversation, he doesn’t want to cause any problems in their relationship.
After the speed dating, Rebecca went for coffee with Matt – he tells her that he wants to go out again. Rebecca is home, she tells Kate about her speed dating, and that she met Matt, then they went for coffee. Kate is not happy about her mother going out and tells her that her dad wouldn’t have liked to see her go around like a slut. Rebecca slaps her in the face.
Present day, Rebecca joined Kate at school, she is playing the piano. Kate is so happy about her time with her mom that she calls Toby and tells her that she is glad that she is in a good place with her mom. Later, Kate and Rebecca return to Kate’s house, Kate tells her that with her last cat scan, they don’t feel comfortable having her watch the kids alone anymore. Rebecca says she is going home.
Randall returns and Beth tells him the next time he is going to leave her with Romeo and Juliette he better think twice. He tells her that he spoke to Malik but it didn’t go well. Randall tells her that he thinks they need to be firm on this. She disagrees, she thinks he is making a mistake and they will their daughter.
Kate drops by to see Rebecca, she tells her that she is really sorry. Rebecca apologizes, she says she is really sensitive about this. Kate says she is deeply sorry too, she feels like she wasted a lot of time with her and now that things are great, it sucks. Rebecca says Jack walked into a bar when she was singing, none of this would have happened. And now she is sitting across from her daughter, he best friend. Kate asks if she would teach Jack music, it is good for memory function too.
