Fast forward to when the kids are in there early twenties, the pool is closed now and the Kate, Randall and Kevin are there.

Present day, Rebecca is talking to the kids and telling them that she needs them to hear her voice. Take risks, take their life in any direction they want, be fearless. Kate and Toby are packed up, they are leaving the cabin. Kate tells him that she wants to go to San Francisco for the weekend, see how it feels.

Kate is taking the kids to the park. Afterwards, she is at work and enjoying working with the kids. Kate then visits Madison and tells her that she misses old Toby, the one before he lost all the weight at the gym, his fancy job and new clothes. Madison tells her that they just need a weekend, old Toby is still in there. Toby tells her there is a slight hitch, but he will be at the apartment to welcome her and roll out the red carpet, but he can’t pick her up at the airport.

Back the pool, Rebecca still doesn’t want to go in the pool, Jack tries and she tells him it is not going to happen.

Kate is with Toby, he tells her that he is so excited that she is final there. He opens a bottle of champagne to share with her. Then he takes her to the window and explains the view to her. He tells her that he is nervous, it has been forever. The next morning, Toby goes out early and gets them some coffee. Toby has plans for them but Kate encourages him to take the day easy and just go with the flow. Toby takes her to a home that is for sale, he tells her that he misses her, misses the kids.

He wants her to think about buying the house. They go inside, Toby loves the house, he has been there a couple of times. After the tour, she tells him that it is overwhelming, it’s a huge decision and she doesn’t even know if they can afford it. She says she was just wrapping her head around San Francisco and now he wants them to move there. He tells her they can do this, they can make a life out there, together.

Kate tells Randall and Kevin that she is in a bad spot, Kevin tells her to give it time, dad hasn’t been gone that long. She says she has no dreams, doesn’t know what she wants to do. Kevin wants to be an actor and already ruined one marriage. Randall wants to change the world and found the love of his life. When she looks at her future, she sees nothing.

Back to San Francisco, Toby tells her that he is sorry he sprung the house on her, he is just so excited. Toby calls a driver to pick them up and he cancels. She says she can walk and he says no, it is all uphill and she looks insulted. They arrive at her boss’s house, his name is Amir. Kate starts mingling and getting to know everyone. Toby walks away for a minute to talk to some colleagues and Kate is left alone. She goes over to the desert table and starts to load up. Amir tells her that Toby has been a life saver and thank God he turned down the job back in LA, losing him would have been a big blow for them.

Kate puts down her plate and goes outside, she sits on the steps and contemplates what Toby told her. Kate goes to see Toby and tells him they need to leave, they are not going to dinner. He asks her what is wrong. She says he got an offer back in LA. He says he applied a long time ago and just got an answer two weeks ago. She tells him he made a big decision about their lives without consulting her. They arrive at his apartment, she wants to know how much more the job pays here.

He says it is not a fair question. He says he has big dreams for their son and he is going to make sure he works to earn enough to give it to him, and he can only do that there. Kate tells him that this is not about them, this is about him, he is the happiest he has ever been. She tells him that sometimes she doesn’t even know who he is anymore. He is no longer the guy who wears the Hawain shirts, the goofy guy she fell in love with, she miss him. She misses him so much she has been picturing him here this weekend with her. He says old Toby was a mess, miserable and self loathing.

And if he hadn’t changed, he would have jumped off a bridge or died of a heart attack. He asks her what is so bad about him right now? She says she doesn’t know, but he is just different. He asks her why this is just about him. It used to be them against the world and today she couldn’t wait to Facetime the kids or cancel plans that he spent so much time making. She says when she was younger she couldn’t think about the future, it was just blank. And now, she has a full life, she has a purpose, she loves her life and she is really happy except for the one thing that is making her really sad.

The next day, Toby and Kate continue talking. He says he feels valued in his new job and he is happy for them, they have both figured out their worth. He loves her and his family, but he needs her to move to San Francisco, it is the only option for them to still be a family.

She tells him that she needs to get some air. Kate goes for a walk, she looks up a hill and thinks back to when Jack tried to show her how to float and told her to believe in herself. She continues up the hill. Back to when she was with Randall and Kevin at the closed pool, she had to climb over a fence and couldn’t do it. But today, she walked up that hill and felt great doing it. And she makes a call, to be considered for a new position.

THE END!
