Transplant Recap 04/10/22: Season 2 Episode 5 "Roads"

In tonight’s Transplant season 2 episode 5, “Roads,” as per the NBC synopsis, “BBash helps his undocumented friend seek asylum and treats a couple from India reconciling with their desire to return home. Theo and his medical student, Jake, treat a teenage boy with an eating disorder. Dr. Bishop and Claire adjust to new hurdles in their relationship.

Tonight’s episode begins with Bashir and his brother, he gives him a drive and spends time with him. Later, Bashir arrives in the hospital and his first case is with Mr. Gupta who has a puncture from a nail, the last time he had a shot was back in India three years ago. Bashir tells him he will order bloodwork and give him an antibiotic. Mr. Gupta is going to be fine, but Bashir says he can’t do strenuous work. Mr. Gupta wants a form to return to work but Bashir won’t sign it, he says he needs to rest for 72 hours.

Theo meets Jake Cooper, he is a third-year med student, and he welcomes him.

Mags finds out that her pacemaker is doing well during an exam, she is told she is good for another year.

Jed is examining Mr. Vezina who has a dislocated shoulder. He tells him to lie back and gets Claire’s help to move it back into place. June runs over to help, she places it back and then checks his heartbeat, it is running fast, so they are going to take some tests.

Theo is in an emergency when he is served, he tells everyone that this is one way to announce that he is getting divorced. Then he introduces everyone to Jake Cooper.

There is an urgent walk-in, the man, Warren, walked in through the glass doors of their building. The man has a chance due to the quick thinking of the woman, Alison, who brought him in. Jed instructs the team to find the bleeder, the man’s stomach is almost exposed. There is a possible tear in the artery, Mags clamps it and takes the man to surgery. The glass cut an artery, but he is going to be ok. The woman who found him says that it’s like she was meant to be there, she is never late for work, but today she was and she ended up holding Warren’s liver in her hand bringing him into surgery.

A young boy, Dimitri, comes in with his father for possible food allergies, the boy is vomiting.

Bashir thinks back to dropping off his brother when he told him there was a detention order against him. And now, there is no answer to his phone.

Mr. Gupta is back in an emergency, Bashir is trying to understand what has happened to him. There is a blockage to an artery in his leg, they need to act quickly before he loses the leg.

Alison, who came in with Warren, is really worried about him.

June tells Mr. Vezina that she is concerned about a condition called aplastic anemia, it can be dangerous. So, she wants to take a bone marrow sample to rule it. He starts to get feisty, and she tells him it could be a life-threatening condition. Just then, Jed walks in and tells June to leave them.

Mrs. Gupta comes in to see her husband. Bashir tells her that he is recovering, but because the wound was infected, he still has a fever. She tells her husband, she needs a blood test, she thinks she is pregnant and after the test, she finds out that she is. Bashir does an ultrasound on her so she can see the baby. He tells her the heartbeat is strong, and she is about eight weeks pregnant. They talk and she says they had a life in Delhi, and her husband had a career, here he doesn’t.

Dimitri is with Theo who tells him that he feels better when he doesn’t eat. He tells him about a group that he belongs to, they eat fewer calories and throw up when they eat something they shouldn’t. Theo tells him that he should speak to his dad, and he can be there with him when he does.

Alison doesn’t like the way Warren looks and urged Mags to take a look at him. Mags does see something, she tells Alison that she may have just saved his life again.

Bashir calls and finds out that his brother is in detention, they will file an appeal but it will take at least 24 hours before they can get him out. He thinks back to when he was in the camp, his prison mate want to make a pact, and whoever makes it out alive will go see the other’s family. Back to the present day, Mr. Gupta is out of bed, he wants to take it to his wife. Bashir tells him that he is concerned about him and that he wants to take him back to his room. Bashir walks him and Mr. Gupta starts to pass out and falls to the floor.

Theo walks into Dimitri’s room, his father has his voice raised and demands to know what is going on. Theo tells him to take a deep breath.

Mr. Vezina’s test result came out negative, it is his testosterone levels that are alone. He is upset about it, he tells June that he is less of a man.

Mr. Gupta’s wife rushes to his side before they take him into surgery, she tells him to come back to his family.

Mags goes to see Allison, Warren is dead, the glass pierced his heart and there was nothing they could do, he was too weak. She is upset, if she was never going to be able to help him, then what was the point.

Theo is furious with Jack, he told Dimitri’s father the truth and Theo tells him that he broke his confidence.

Bashir and Mags are in the elevator, they have a moment, then she gets out.

Jack goes to see Theo outside, the makeup.

Mr. Gupta is going to be ok, his wife is with him.

Bashir is leaving the hospital and makes a call about his brother, it has been two weeks and his brother’s lawyer still thinks the appeal could work, but he advises him to wrap his head around the fact that his brother could be deported.
