There’s never been a more important time to go undercover. The latest boss on tonight’s episode was Chief People’s Officer for Coco’s. His name is Warren Boone. Boone was the one calling the shots and he hasn’t been with the company all that long. He came on during the pandemic. He laid off about fifty percent of staffing in the bakery/restaurants. The restaurants had been popular in the 90s, but they’ve been struggling ever since and the pandemic has taken its toll. Many restaurants had to shut down. The customers went elsewhere and now it’s been hard with getting them back what with them finding new places to frequent.

Boone wanted to know how to fix the issue. He dressed up and took on the persona of “Brad” to get to know the business on the ground floor. His first time in the restaurant had been with Amanda. She was a server. She showed Boone how to take orders. They also had delivered the items and Boone struggled with everything. Boone had to go back to the people at least three times to get their orders right. He didn’t know the menu. The servers have to memorize a big menu. Then there was locating the ticket. The restaurant where he was starting had this computer system that sometimes gave the ticket to the chefs.

At other times, it went to a print-out that was nowhere near the kitchen. Amanda often has to track down every order she puts into the system to make sure the kitchen has it. Something that cost time and was downright annoying. There was also the tray that Boone dropped. Drinks went everywhere. They had to clean it up and so balancing those trays was no joke. They required a lot of effort. Another thing that Boone had to get used to was accepting payment because the computer system was woefully troublesome. There were people who came in with gift cards. The computer system didn’t want to take them and it took so long that Boone was tempted to break cover.

Boone wanted to comp the meal. He could only do that by breaking cover and so it’s a good thing the manager was finally able to get the computer system back on track. Afterward, Boone then had to wash dishes. The restaurants are heavily understaffed. Thanks to Boone’s budget cuts there weren’t enough people to serve and clean dishes. Amanda had to pull double duty. She also had to work a longer shift than when she started out. It’s hard because her mother has cancer and they only have one car. Amanda often has to try scrambling for a ride home because she didn’t want to wake her mother to give her a lift. And so Boone saw what his cuts were costing people.
