In tonight’s 9-1-1 Lone Star finale episode, Wyatt was making a slow recovery. Only he remains hopeful. He didn’t let being in the hospital stop him from being happy. He reassured his loved ones that the spinal surgeon saved his motor functions.

He didn’t even get upset when a special test was pushed back by a day because the doctor was too busy to do it on the day she said she would. Judd had wanted to be there when the test was done, but Wyatt didn’t want him to miss another shift. He told his dad that his mom would fill him in. He made sure Judd went to work and Judd later saw a miracle.

Little Piper was a toddler. Some jerk carjacked her mom at the gas station. He stole the car with Piper still inside. She was in the backseat. He was also on drugs.

His vision was blurry and that caused him to drive erratically. Her mom called 911 the second it happened. APD and AFD were quick to deploy. They came up with a strategy of trying to box the carjacker in only he surprised them by trying to drive through fences. He was high. He was desperate. He ended up driving straight into a pool.

The driver got out to save his own life. He didn’t even bother trying to save Piper’s. Owen was the first one there and he dived into the pool. He found Piper. He got her with the help of his trusty knife. And he handed her prone body to Tommy. Tommy and the team were the ones that got back Piper’s pulse.

She had died for a few minutes in that pool and they brought her back to life. It was moments like this that reminded the first responders that miracles can happen. Judd needed to see that because he heard back from Marlene.

There was a high chance that Wyatt may never walk away. He was apparently losing function in his legs. He can never become a firefighter. He might lose hope once he finds out about his condition. Wyatt was asleep when the doctors came in with their results. Marlene has medical power of attorney.

The doctor told her Wyatt’s diagnosis, and she called Judd because she didn’t know how to break it to Wyatt. Judd also didn’t know how to break it to his son. He talked with Tommy about it and Tommy reminded him that he still has upper body mobility.

Wyatt will still be able to hold his child one day. That’s what’s important. Tommy reminded Judd of that and she also mentioned that the loss wasn’t concrete. They see miracles everyday with their job and Wyatt might get a miracle of his own. Even if he doesn’t regain motor function in his legs, he will always have his family.

Marlene and Judd discussed it. They decided to tell Wyatt together. They broke the news to him. They watched him as he fell apart. He didn’t want to hear he might never walk again. He didn’t want to be told he might have to go to a facility so that he could learn how to take care of himself.

Judd saw him in that moment. He realized his son wouldn’t be able to handle it. He then came up with an idea. Judd decided he wanted Wyatt to come live with them. Wyatt would could sleep in the living room. He would also have round the clock care because Judd wanted to quit his job to be there for him.

He later told Grace that he wanted to support Wyatt now more than ever since he wasn’t there for Wyatt for the first seventeen years of his life. Judd wasn’t going to quit right away. He was just going to use up all the sick time he amassed over the past twenty years. And then once that was done, only then would he quit.

But Judd respected Owen too much to string him along. He went over to Owen’s place. He told Owen that he was quitting his job and he wouldn’t be talked out of the decision. It didn’t matter to him that he didn’t have any experience in health care or know what it’s like to be full-time caregiver.

He was putting his son first and he wouldn’t regret that. Father and sons have a complicated relationship. Owen understood that. Carlos understood that as well. Carlos was having drinks with his dad and TK when Gabriel offered him a job with the Texas Rangers.

Carlos turned it down. He also accused the Texas Rangers of being a racist organization that targeted black and brown. He wanted nothing to do with it. Only the way he said it to his father made Gabriel feel like Carlos was ashamed of him. Carlos wasn’t ashamed. He just found a way to hurt him because he was still hurting.

He didn’t always have the best relationship with his dad. His family in general had tried to force him into the closet because they couldn’t accept the fact that he was gay. Things were different now. They now accept him and love him as a gay man.

Carlos just didn’t want to be a Texas ranger. He later apologized to his dad for his behavior. He saw for himself that his father changed and, while he doesn’t want to join him in being a ranger, he was still incredibly proud of him. He even asked Gabriel to take part in the wedding. Gabriel was so excited. He was actually trying on his tux when someone rang the bell of their house. He went to go answer it and he was shot down on his doorstep. Instead of a wedding, everyone came together for a funeral.

Carlos decided to postpone the wedding. He wasn’t in the mindset to get married after just losing his dad. Especially as his father’s killer hadn’t been found. Gabriel was a Texas Ranger for a long time. Everyone assumed he made enemies with his job.

They thought his shooter was someone he helped apprehend, but Carlos found a false bottom in one of the drawers at his parents’ place. He opened it up. He found confidential files listing an unauthorized investigation from 2003. Gabriel was apparently investigating corrupt ties between Austin Police Department, Texas Rangers, and a cartel.

Gabriel helped bring these men down. He was set to testify against the cartel. Someone from the cartel called him on his burner for the case and told him he should catch the flu on the day he gives testimony only Carlos only ever heard the messages. Not what his dad said. He assumed his dad ignored them. He assumed the cartel got tired of trying to convince him. He assumed they killed him. He also thought if it was a white Texas Ranger that got gun down then the organization would have done everything possible to solve it. They wouldn’t let it turn into a cold case.

Carlos doesn’t trust the Texas Rangers. He decided to find his father’s killer on his own. He got the messages from his dad’s burner and he connected them back to Pablo Martinez. He was some low-level thug connected to the cartel that Gabriel was investigating. Carlos was so sure that Pablo murdered his dad that he tried to kill him. And Owen stopped him. TK had gone to Owen because he was worried about Carlos. He saw that Carlos wasn’t eating or drinking. He was just set on hunting down his father’s killer and TK didn’t want him to do something he couldn’t walk back.

Owen reached out to Ty O’Brien. Ty contacted Gabriel’s boss within the Texas Rangers. They all assured Carlos that Pablo wasn’t the killer. Pablo was an undercover cop. He helped Gabriel make his case against police corruption. The voice messages were old. They weren’t death threats. Pablo was genuinely scared for Gabriel’s life and thankfully Gabriel never had to testify. The cartel leader made a deal. He took a deal to escape the death penalty. Carlos had been wrong about everything and he was stopped before he could blow Pablo’s cover.

Carlos almost made a mistake that could have cost him his life. Only he now knows he made a mistake in postponing the wedding. He returned to TK and he proposed to him again. He asked TK to go ahead with the wedding. He wanted to celebrate something good in spite of all his grief. Carlos and TK were later married in front of friends and family. Paul was their officiant. Iris was Carlos’s best man. The wedding was beautiful and the newly married couple had no regrets about any of it. And even Owen’s new family came.

Robert told his family about his disease. They took it much better than he thought. He realized he underestimated them and yet he still wanted to kill himself. Owen didn’t want him to go through with it. He tried to talk Robert out of it. And Robert still went ahead with his plan.

Robert killed himself a few days after the wedding and Owen stayed by his side.

THE END!
