In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, Eddie’s aunt tried to set him up on a blind date. Only she didn’t warn him about the date. She sorta sprung it on him. She claimed that her pipe was broken and that she needed his help to fix it. He goes running over there only to find out there was nothing with her pipes. His aunt lied.
She actually called him over because she wanted to introduce him Vanessa and her aunt. Vanessa’s aunt and his aunt were friends. The two Tias wanted to play matchmaker. They convinced the two to go on a date and Eddie was dreading it because he felt like he had to perform. He whined about it all throughout lunch with his friends.
He said he knew the date would be a bad idea. Hen chose to be optimistic by saying first dates are always about a performance and so does he truly dread the date or is he scared to put himself out there again? Bobby also took that time to say that their annual review was up. He would get to judge their performance on their yearly review and they got to review him as well.
They got to tell him what he could do to make it a better experience at the firehouse. Most of the firefighters hated the review because they never know what to say to him. It was just Chimney who felt he had nothing to worry about.
Chimney said he’s been at the 118 long before any of them. He claimed he’ll also be there long after them. Chimney thought he would sail through his review, but he had been proven wrong about that one. He was told he needed to work on his leadership skills. He was essentially sent back to the Fire Academy.
It was his job to hone his leadership skills by testing the cadets there. Chimney hated it at first because he really was not a leadership type of guy and so those cadets helped him realize he might have been wrong about that too.
Chimney got to enjoy himself the more it went on. He had them run through a simulation to save a fake baby. There was only one person who passed that test and it was someone by the name of Novak.
Chimney enjoyed teaching him. Eddie also ended up enjoying himself on none date with Vanessa. Vanessa wasn’t looking to date anyone anytime soon. She recently got out of an engagement. Her fiancé called off the wedding and she was still healing from a broken heart. Not that it mattered to her own aunt.
Her aunt felt enough time has passed. It has been a year. The aunt thought she should get back out there and she’s set Vanessa up on several dates with nice Mexican American guys. She didn’t know that Vanessa has never given any of them a chance. Vanessa has always taken them to a club where they work on their story before going separate ways. Vanessa wasn’t looking for anything right now. Eddie wasn’t looking for anything either and yet he liked Vanessa. He liked her as a person. He also felt disappointed that their date didn’t go anywhere and so now he was questioning why he was disappointed.
Eddie hadn’t wanted that date. He also hadn’t wanted the date to go nowhere. It was such a strange feeling for him that he used up all of his annual review to vent to Bobby about it. Buck had used his review to take Bobby to task. He thought Bobby was going too easy on him because he technically died for a couple of minutes. He asked to be treated like everyone else. He told Bobby that’s what he could do on his end and so Bobby commended him. He said he’d work on that. And he thanked Buck for standing up to him.
Maddie was meanwhile kicking butt at the 911 call center. She got a call from a teenager that was supposed to audition at a musical school and so he had a panic attack right before he was supposed to perform. The poor kid thought he was having a heart attack. He called 911 because he needed help. He got that when he got Maddie.
Maddie didn’t need to send an ambulance his way. She instead used her skills as a nurse to calm down the teenager over the phone. What really helped him was when she began singing to him. She knew that music would help him focus. Its why he was there at that school to begin with.
Maddie helped a scared child regain his confidence. Chimney was doing the same thing at the Fire Academy. Novak had a panic attack while going down the wall and so Chimney went down there to join him. He talked Novak through what he needed to do. He also benched another kid for trying to play the hero.
The guy dislocated his own shoulder because he tried to look good without knowing what to actually do in the scenario. The whole thing made Chimney remember an old friend. They had agreed to become firefighters together and his friend died by going through a roof on a job.
Novak later decided to leave the Academy. Only Chimney still thought he had a future with LAFD. Chimney also helped Ravi to realize that he couldn’t keep hiding at the Fire Academy forever. It was one thing to help recruits if you felt that was your passion. It was another to lose yourself there because you were hiding from the real world. And so Chimney got Ravi to return to the 118.
And there was an incident at a bodybuilding competition that almost turned into a riot, but Athena managed to calm everyone.
THE END!
