In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, Mason Lewis broke into an office building to set it on fire. The office was that of a tax attorney. Lewis broke in because he was being audited by the IRS and so he tried to destroy evidence of what he was paying, but the tax attorney was still there.

He surprised Mason. Mason accidentally set himself on fire. The tax attorney saved his life. He also called 911. The 118 gave Mason a ride to the hospital. They also tried to offer the tax attorney ride as well and he turned them down because he had to go back to working on people’s taxes.

There were only two things guaranteed in life. Death and Taxes! There was no one that died on Bobby’s watch only Athena couldn’t say the same. Athena was transporting a prisoner when he lost consciousness. Athena did everything by the book. She stopped the car.

She tried to perform CPR. She even called in for an ambulance. It was all too late because Dominic Dawson died in the back of her police car and she was left with a bunch of paperwork as a result. Athena also had to do an interview with IA.

Athena was very honest about what happened. She had no reason to lie because again she did everything by the book. She was there when Dominic was arrested. He failed to appear after an arrest warrant had been issued and so Athena went with a few others from patrol to arrest him.

They tried to get him to come outside on his own. He chose to be difficult by hiding in the bathroom. It turns out he used the bathroom even as he saw LAPD outside his door. They threatened to break down the door and he came out on his own recognizance.

LAPD didn’t rough him up. He came out. He was arrested. He was put in the back of the squad car and that was it. He never regained consciousness. Athena had no idea what happened and she was the sort that never wanted to leave a mystery unsolved.

She wanted to know what exactly happened to Dominic. He was stealing from his charity prior to his death. He could have had enemies. Athena decided to look into his death and that old saying of death and taxes came back to haunt someone else. Chimney and Maddie found out they were being audited.

They each got separate letters from the IRS. Only they were being asked to come in together. They’ve been doing their own taxes by using a computer program instead of a person. They were trying to save money what with a new house and a toddler, but it looks like it might have been a mistake. They were so worried about their interview with the IRS that they ate a bunch of ice cream. They even got really pessimistic by letting slip they might go to jail to their toddler. And now little Jee-Yun was saying “Papa Jail”.

The 118 were later called to the scene of a funeral. Some priest had accidentally crashed his car into the chapel. It was a “live” funeral. The person they were all coming to mourn was still alive and she was a part of the big event. She was dying. She wanted to help her family grieve while she still could. She also had a death doula that was helping her with all the plans. Buck met this doula. He really liked her and she invited him out to coffee. She was apparently won over after he said he died for a couple of minutes after getting hit by lightning.

The death doula was curious about the other side. She wanted to know what death was like. Buck told her how he was transported to a world that was familiar and everything he ever thought he wanted until he realized he loves his life as it is. Buck was telling her the story as Athena was figuring something out. She went down to the Medical Examiner’s office. Luanne was a friend. She was also rather busy because of a massive bus accident and so she hasn’t gotten around to checking Dominic’s body yet.

Luanne still allowed Athena to check him unofficially. Athena was going to look for any sign of distress, but she eventually learned that Dominic wasn’t really dead. He put his medical bracelet on a dead guy from the bus accident. He was actually still alive. He purposely overdosed on blood pressure medicine knowing that he’d be treated at the hospital. He then tried to sneak back into his house to get some things when Athena found him. She arrested him again. She brought him down to the station where she was booking him when he again lost consciousness.

It was revealed that the medication he took earlier had caused a real heart attack now. He died again and this time Athena waited a minute to make sure his death stuck. Chimney and Maddie meanwhile learned they accidentally committed tax fraud. They filed separately. They both claimed to be head of house. They also both claimed their daughter as a dependent. They have a few weeks to refile or they risk going to jail. They sought out a tax attorney right after that. He advised them to get married and that way they save fourteen thousand dollars. And they can file together.

Maddie thought about it. She realized she might not want to get married again and she didn’t tell Chimney this and so Chimney began looking for engagement rings.

THE END!
