This year is going to be off charts. Haven Madison is the first contestant and she is with her dad, Jason, he will play the guitar for her while she sings “Fifteen,” an original song.
The judges loved the song, her dad is crying. Lionel tells him that there is a reason to cry, her song writing ability is amazing, and she sang incredibly. Katy thinks she made good vocal decisions, on another level, so authentic, coming from her heart. Luke loves how the day started, 16 years old, he tells her dad to hit the record button. She is going through.
Lucie Love is 28 years old and she is ready. She is singing “Heard It Through The Grapevine,” by Marvin Gaye.
Lionel says he heard some notes that were really notes, and if he stripped away her personality, there is an artist in there. Lionel gets her to sing another song and she just bangs it out. Katy is in tears, she tells her that she has so much join in her, but she is so much pain in her, she is like Mary J Blige on fire. Luke says he had written her, but she just proved him wrong. She is going through.
Luke Bryan is 27 and yes, his name is really Luke Bryan. And then, there is a Katey Parry who auditions and she tells Katy that if she is good, one of them is going to have to change their names. Unfortunately, they don’t make it through. Then, there is a girl who auditions and her name is Ryan Seacrest.
Colin Stough is 18 years old and his mom signed him up for American Idol, he is singing, “Simple Man,” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Katy says he has the magic in him, Luke tells him to bring his mom Nara in the room, Luke gets up and thanks her for signing up her son, he gives her a hug. She says he started to play guitar at five years old. Luke says he is raw, real and humble. Lionel says he gladly casts a yes vote, and so does Luke and Katy.
Lyric is from Hawaii and her dad was a singer in the 80’s, his name is Glen Medeiros. She is singing, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” by Kelsea Ballerini.
Katy tells her that is too cute and safe so Lyric sings “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. Luke says she is too pretty for an ugly business. Lionel says she needs to be in a room with some ballers. Luke doesn’t think she is ready. Katy says she is too polite and too sweet, but there is something inside of her that wants to give her a shot. She is going to Hollywood.

Luke tells him to burn his apron at the burger joint. Lionel says he is so good. Katy just hopes others sound so good like that. Lionel loves the rasp and there growl, and he had so much fun. He is three for three, he is going through.
Ian Tongi from Kahuku, Hawaii, three years ago he moves to Seattle. His dad past away a few months ago, he is the one who got him into music. He is singing “Monsters,” by James Blunt, he is dedicating to his dad, Rodney.
All three judges give a standing ovation. Lionel says he wasn’t sure if they were going to make it through the song. Katy says he could have written the song, he hit a nerve, his voice is just magnificent. Luke is crying, he says just seeing him miss his dad sucks, and he has a great voice, he did everything perfect and wants to see him fun with this whole thing. Lionel says the story is one thing, the delivery was phenomenal. Three yes votes from the judges. Luke gets up and hugs him.

Lionel is in tears, he gets up and hugs Kya. He tells her that performance was so emotional, so heart felt, in the glorious name of Willie. Luke says what a way to tribute Willie. Katy says it was on a another level, it was so authentic. Kya gets three yes votes to go to the next round.
