On tonight’s American Idol season 6 episode 16 as per the ABC synopsis,“The Top 7 contestants perform LIVE coast to coast in front of Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie as audiences across the country cast their vote for the Top 5.”

Tonight’s American Idol epode begins with Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheehan filling in for Lionel Rickie and Katy Perry who are preforming for King Charles in the OK. The two guest judges join Luke Bryan on the judges panel, with Ryan Seacrest hosting. The top 8 will be trimmed down to top 5. The top 8 still perform songs from Alanis’ catalog after the mentors them, the top 8 will also be paired for duets.

King Charles and Queen Camilla join Katy and Lionel in the UK to say hello during the party over there.

First up tonight is Warren Peay, he is nervous because Alanis is an icon. He tells her that he guest nervous when he puts the guitar down. He is singing, “All I Want.”

Alanis loved that he applied what they talked about, and she never imagined hearing a version like this, it was beautiful. Ed thinks he shined without a guitar. Luke says to see him explore the stage, its fun watching him grow, great job.

Zachariah Smith is up, Alanis tells him that his voice is beautiful, like an angel. He choose this song because he thinks it is free and flows well. He is singing, “Ironic.”

Alanis loved seeing him being in the flow and enjoying himself. Ed loves that song, and thought he did a great job. Luke says there were a lot of dynamics in that, he had some tender moments, used the mic, great job.

Iam Tongi and Oliver Steele perform “Photographed” by Ed Sheehan.

Ed says their voices compliment each other, the gentleness and softness, he got emotional. Alanis says she loved the cohesive connection between them. Luke says he was watching Ed watch them, great job and great arrangement, emotional and spiritual. Oliver gives a shout out to his dad in the audience, he finally made it.

Haven Madison is with Alanis who tells her to use her falsetto in the person, she does really great with it. Haven is singing, “You Learn.”

Alanis says working with her and seeing her perform, gorgeous, and she tells her to keep being authentic. Ed says he was impressed, vocally it was nuts. Luke loves that when they met her she was playing at a piano and now she is up there free, there is so much growth. Great performance, he loved seeing everything about it.

Warren Peay and Wé Ani  pair up to sing “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.

Ed says he loved the rendition, really cool, he loved their voices. Alanis says beautiful, they indicated their massive range. Luke keeps looking back to their original audition day, they have both blossomed and he loves how they came together.

Colin Stough is up and he is so nervous with Alanis, he gives her a taste of his performing her song and she says it gave her chills. He tells her Lionel wanted him to get “nasty,” and she shows him how. Colin is singing, “Hand In My Pocket.”

Alanis did not see that coming, if nasty is this, she loves it. Beautiful work. Ed says it was up his alley, he loved how it rocked out at the end, brilliant. Luke says he is just so damn cute he doesn’t know what to do. He put his own artistic stamp on that song.

Haven Madison and Zachariah Smith perform “Thinking Out Loud,” by Ed Sheehan.

Ed say they sang it better than he did, so soulful and powerful. Alanis says that felt like the song was meant to be a duet, very lucid and free. Luke says he has smile cramps after that, just watching them do star like things. And, he loves to see that tender side of Zachary, great job.

Megan Danielle is shocked to be there with Alanis, he is singing this for her boyfriend, the lyrics explain all. Megan is singing, “Head Over Feet.”

Alanis said it was so soulful, really authentic and gorgeous. Ed that was genuine, he thought he was listening to a classic singer from the 60’s, he was really impressed. Luke says he was nudging Ed, saying this girl’s got a tone, she nailed that.

Ed Sheehan performs a special acoustic version of “Eyes Closed.”

Iam Tongi is next with Alanis, he is singing this song with his mom. He sings it for Alanis and she is brought to tears. Iam is singing “Guardian.”

Alanis says he took what they shared to another level, she loves that he sang it to his mom, and the empathy in his voice is such a huge gift. Ed says he felt he really connected with the song. Luke says great job, he always lights the room up.

Wé Ani is next, Alanis wants her to be less perfect, maybe at 70%, she wants it to be more rough around the edges, then she will believe her more. Wé Ani is singing “Uninvited.”

Alanis says that she did believe that she was singing this to someone, like they spoke about. Ed loved how she changed the arrangement and style of it, it showcased her voice. Luke says it is such a haunting song, that was the best he ever heard it.

Colin Stough and Megan Danielle sing “Dive” by Ed Sheehan.

Ed says whoever put them together is genius, they compliment each other so well, it is a privilege for him. Alanis says it is a trip to hear their songs sung back to them, she loved the way they connected. Luke says Megan has these tricky runs and it was fun seeing Colin do it, it was a sweet moment and sweet rendition.

Oliver Steele is the last one to sit down with Alanis, and he says he is ready to wake people up. He is ready to drop a big does of him. He is singing, “You Oughta Know.”

Alanis says that he really brought it, she barely knows him but she is proud of him. Ed loved it, he says he conveyed the emotional really well. Luke says he was watching his dad while he was performing, what a way to get in there, swords blazing, it was awesome.

Time for results, three people will be leaving the competition. Over 21 million votes came in, the first person in the top five Zachariah Smith. The next person safe is Megan Danielle, then Iam Tongi, Wé Ani, and the last one is Colin Stough.

Haven Madison, Warren Peay and Oliver Steele are eliminated.
