Tonight’s American Idol episode begins with the judges wishing that the top 5 have big careers. The top five; Colin Stough, Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi, Wé Ani and Zacharia Smith will be paying homage to Disney.
Sara Bareilles performs “When you wish upon a star,” from the movie, Pinocchio – id way through the song she is joined by the top 5 on stage.
Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan come on stage with Katy Perry who is dressed like Elastigirl from The Incredibles.
Sofia Carson is serving as the mentor for this episode and Wé Ani is up first and she is siging “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II.
Lionel says what a way to the star, she looks like a a star and sings like a star. She took that Disney song with a popular approach. Katy says that was incredible, it was like she was karate chopping, all these different notes, a super hero of vocals. Luke says great performance, she hasn’t hit a bad note all year, congrats on making it to Disney night.
Ryan asks her about the best thing about going home, she says getting a deli sandwich and being with her friends and family, she just wants to say thank you.
Zachariah has his family at Disneyland and says it is really cool and exciting. Zachariah is singing, “Just Can’t Wait to be King” from The Lion King. Sofia says he is walking sunshine with a powerhouse of a voice. His two daughters love Sofia, and his oldest dressed up as her for Halloween. His whole family gets to meet Sofia.
Katy says he actually may become king, he was the underdog and now he is here and we are one week away. Luke says his comfort level of moving like that, he used to be hard on himself, he provides entertainment at a higher level. Lionel says entertaining is the second half of the equation and he is right in the driving seat, he is on fire.
Colin Stough Is next, he is with his mom in Disneyland, she means everything to him. His mom is the reason he is there, she signed him up for the show and he wants to give her everything. Colin is singing “Real Gone” from Cars.
Luke says they wanted him to get real comfortable and he just did, he let loose and had fun, that was maybe his favourite performance. Lionel says bar none it was his favourite performance, the confidence was right out there. Katy says he came out looking like an electric guitar, he took the risk and did what they wants him to do and looked good on him.
Megan Danielle is at Disneyland with her mom, this is there for time there. She is so happy that she could be there and a part of her dream. Megan is singing “You Can’t Stop the Girl” by Bebe Rexha from Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
Lionel says she has grown so much, that was a stellar performance, he loved that she came out looking and the voice was at another level, amazing. Katy thinks this is the most she has stretched her vocals, she was competing with all of the big ones. Luke says the whole time he wants to tell her she is a vocalist, its bigger than the girl they met at auditions.
Iam Tongi is also having his first time at Disneyland, Sofia tells him that she is a fan, when he sings it sounds like he lived a thousand lives. Iam is singing “Lava” from Lava.
Katy says that a super hero mom once said your identity is your most valuable position and its true for him, he knows exactly who he is. Luke says authenticity, he is so authentic and he doesn’t have to work hard, he just does his thing and the room lights up, it is special. Lionel says he considers him a master story teller, his dreams have come true.
Wé Ani and her mom Jackie get some one on one time in Disneyland, her mom wanted to be a singer but gave it up to raise her children, Wé called her a superhero. Wé is singing “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
Luke say once again she delivered, a great song choice for her, she was so elegant in her delivery. Lionel says from a writer and producer, he is in love with her. She makes people feel any song she sings. Katy says it was all about the climb, this journey, and she has got to the top.
Halle Bailey performs “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.
Zachariah Smith is up again, he is so happy to have his mom with him, he wrote her a note of thanks for Mother’s Day, and talks about his brother who has Autism. Zachariah is singing “Life is a Highway” from Cars.
Lionel calls him Michael Zachariah, he is the entertainer’s entertainer, he is there. Katy says he was doing 100 miles per hour, she loves the letter that he wrote his mother, he is a representation of a good man. Luke says he can’t say anything else, they all got there.
Colin Stough tells Sofia that he used to watch her when he was a kid, he was a big fan, she says she is now a big fan of his. Colin is singing “Nobody Knows” by The Lumineers, from Pete’s Dragon.
Katy says it is like he was giving everyone their own special performance, he controlled it so well you could hear a pin drop. Luke says he accepted all the challenges, he does an amazing job holding the room and he has that as his anchor. Lionel says there are a lot of things they can coach you on, stage presence he either has or he doesn’t and he has.
Sofia tells Megan Danielle that she deserves to be on that stage. Megan is singing, Megan is singing “Carried Me With You” from Onward.
Luke says God gave it to her when she was born, she has the magic voice and tone, magic delivery, he loves her voice. Lionel says ditto, she has a cry that is so believable and so real, a fabulous tool. Katy says there is a light that switched, you can see it and hear it.
Iam Tongi is with his mom, and she is happy that he is singing this song for his dad, he is singing “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Lionel says that there is a moment when magic happens and this is magical, it is really happening. Katy says it is written in the stars, she knows his name is Iam, but she sees “I am the next American Idol.” Luke thanks Iam’s mom for signing him up.
Time for results, after the nationwide vote in no particular votes, the first person in your top three and competing in the finale is Colin Tough.
The next person voted into the top 3 is Megan Danielle.
Only one spot left, the final person Iam Tomi,
Wé Ani and Zachariah Smith are going home.
