In tonight’s American Ninja Warrior episode it was Night Eight of the Qualifiers! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opened up the show. They made for great hosts. They even ran the course first. They weren’t so bad on it and their appearances were sprinkled all throughout the rest of tonight’s episode.

But it seems the ninja turtles were better than their human counterparts. The first ninja to have his run tonight was Chainsaw Rick. Rick Shinn was a tree surgeon. He also used trees to create his own ninja gym. He knew going into tonight that he struggled with balance obstacles and unfortunately all his work tonight came crashing down when he fell on that very same obstacle today.

Next up was Zhanique Lovett. She was a veteran ninja. She got to Stage 1 several times in past. She’s taken part in the female championships. She just hasn’t hit a buzzer in a while and the last mother to do so was in fact Sammy. Zhanique wanted to change that. She went into tonight’s episode hoping to hit a buzzer and she made it all the way to the fifth obstacle when she fell. She was fast on her feet. She will most likely make it into the next round only she really wanted to hit that buzzer tonight. And she got further than a lot of people did.

There were several people who had their runs during the commercial break. None made it as far as Zhanique. Herbert Steadman had his run after the break. He was retired naval officer who became a barber stateside. Herbert was giving people haircuts back on the ship. He pursued it and he’s made a name for himself. He was a great barber as well as a great member of the community. He gives out free haircuts to people who need it. He makes sure everyone looks sharp. He also let the hosts play around with his tools while he had his run.

Herbert made it as far as Kite Surfer when he fell. He was a little too muscular for that obstacle. His heavier weight was a disadvantage he couldn’t overcome, but there was hope for him. He has to wait and see if he made it far enough fast enough to qualify for the next round. Next up was Ryan Stratis. He was an OG Ninja. He’s been around since practically the beginning. He was known for hitting buzzers. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he would be going to the next round and so it was just question of timing.

Will Ryan be fast enough for the Mega Warped Wall? Ryan does have problems with his shoulder. He managed to push through the pain only that didn’t stop everyone from seeing how much he struggled tonight. There was even a fear he would fall on the fifth obstacle. Thankfully, Ryan managed to hold on. He made all the way up the Warped Wall where he gave his signature mountain man scream. Ryan was the first finisher of the night. He just wasn’t fast enough for the Mega Warped Wall. And he still did great for someone pushing forty.

Emme Pereyra was one of the new faces on the court. She went next. She was teenager. She struggled with a rare skin condition that meant she couldn’t go into sports. It took her seeing several doctors before this condition could be traced back to an infection in her gut and was removed. Only Emma feels like that prepared her for ANW. She said if she could handle that, she could handle anything. Emma made it as far as Kit Surfer when she fell tonight. She’s another wait and see. And after Emma, there was Flip Rodriguez.

Flip was a known speed demon. He used to wear a mask when he had his run. He got rid of it and then he brought it back again last year. He showed himself with the mask at the start of tonight, but he didn’t run with it. He instead ran barefaced. He also stayed true to his speed. He sped through the course. He made it all the way to the Warped Wall and he hit the buzzer after seven years of no buzzer during the Qualifiers. He’s back, baby! Flip wasn’t fast enough to go after the Mega Warped Wall only everyone knew how much it meant to him that he hit that buzzer.

Caleb Bergstrom went next. He was one of the “Baby Bergies”. His dad started the ninja dream. The kids were now pursuing it and Caleb has a hit or miss season. When he’s good, he could even get a Mega Warped Wall. When he’s bad, he can sometimes fall on the second obstacle. Tonight was a good night for him. He was at his best. Caleb sped through the course and he hit a buzzer on the Warped Wall. He qualified for the Mega Warped Wall thanks to his speed. And he was the first tonight to actually get the extra ten thousand dollars after he hit the buzzer on the Mega Warped Wall.

Then came the Runoffs! Daniel Osmer won the men’s race and Dara DePaulo won the women’s race. And both will going into the next round.

THE END!
