In tonight’s Chicago Med recap, Gallo’s aunt got into a car accident. He was quick on the scene. He helped rescue her. He also stayed with her as she was transported to the hospital and he stayed by her side until he was forced to leave. He hadn’t even cared that he left his car by the side of the road with the keys still inside.
Gallo was so devoted to her because he felt guilty. The last thing he told her before the accident was that he wanted her out of life. He was still angry with her for abandoning him as a kid because she couldn’t accept responsibility to raise him. He ended up going to someone else. Someone he barely knew and he never forgave Lacy for what she did.
Things were different now. He was no longer the angry kid lashing out. He was concerned for her and he wanted her to be okay. Her driver had apparently been over the limit. He walked away with barely a scratch. She meanwhile was fighting for her life. Gallo went to work the next morning hoping to take his mind off of what was happening with Lacy only he and his friends later became worried about a new person. They became worried about Carver. Carver could have died from a fire at an apartment building.
They were all wearing masks when they went into the building. They felt their arms begin to itch. They realized there was something corrosive in the air and they were supposed to keep their masks on to protect themselves. Only Carver rescued a woman. She was very erratic as he was rescuing her. She knocked off his mask in the middle of the fire and he breathed in fumes before he could get her outside. Carver got her to an ambulance, but he passed out right after that. They needed to rush him to the hospital as well.
Carver was one of the lucky ones. He began feeling better at the hospital once he had oxygen. The woman he saved hadn’t fared as well. She had to be intubated and the firefighters were told they had to wait to see if she woke up. Chief Boden was very angry about what almost happened to his people. He went to Director Valencia. He demanded changes in policy that would save more firefighters from dying in a situation exactly like what happened. Boden had even mentioned where the fire took place.
He thought he was just warning Valencia except the location holds some significance. The location was one of many that has gotten city contracts from this problematic chemical company. It was reported that every investigation into them gets shut down by someone in government and that this could be connected to the city’s treasurer, Don Ramsay. The same Ramsay that tried to threaten Ritter. Ritter hadn’t told anyone what Ramsay tried to do to him or their firehouse. He buried in return for Ramsay backing off.
Then Boden heard that Ramsay could be connected to giving certain contracts to the wrong people. He mentioned it in front of Ritter and Boden was going to dismiss it because he said Ramsay seemed like a good guy only that’s when Ritter finally decided to come clean. Ritter later told Boden as well as Herrmann and Kidd about what happened. He went into details about the threats. He told them that Ramsay essentially stalked him using his contacts within CFD. He said Ramsay was a bad dude and, once Boden took Ritter to task for keeping secrets, he tried to do something about it.
Boden went to his boss in the hope of getting help in reporting Ramsay. He thought she would help. She instead told him that she couldn’t risk taking a shot at someone so powerful unless they had enough to bring him down. She told Boden to make an anonymous complaint in the meantime. She claimed it might spark an investigation. Boden wasn’t as foolish as to believe Ramsay wouldn’t shut that down too. He was thinking over to what to do on his day off when Ramsay “accidentally” ran into him. Ramsay didn’t live or work in the neighborhood. He went out of his way to corner Boden.
Ramsay claimed he was just being a good helper. He pretended to care about Carver in the hospital. Boden told him that he was fooling no one and then Boden began looking into Ramsay. He found out that it was an umbrella company that was overseeing all of the city’s contracts. The umbrella company was being ran by Ramsay’s mistress. He was giving her all of the jobs and people were dying. Boden was about to report it when they inadvertently showed their hand to the mistress. She recognized them when they came on a surprise inspection. And she told Ramsay about it.
Ramsay then called Boden down to his office where he held a surprise conference. The conference was all about how he found that insufficient city contractors were jeopardizing lives. Ramsay then said to a room full of people that he was working with Boden to hire new people. People that will do the job right. He protected himself. He made Boden looked the hero. Now, no one will believe Boden if he tries to come forward with the truth. Ramsay won this round.
And Gallo was going to help his aunt. She didn’t want to take pain meds because she was in recovery. Gallo thought he could help her through it and she agreed to stay in Chicago to be with him. He finally had someone who knew and loved his family as much as he did. And he could talk through his memories with her. But Brett tried doing a magic show as a favor for Dylan and she bombed.
THE END!
