In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Jack Dayton wants to turn the hospital into a for profit. He was only going to do surgeries that paid. Or that drew media attention. He wanted to eliminate everything else and he was even trying to automate most of the nurses’ jobs while he was at it. He was literally the worst.
He didn’t care about the little people or even the people that work for him. He got majority stake in the hospital because it amused him. He liked all the attention he had gotten from it. He liked bringing his high-class friends to the OR 2.0 to show off. And now he wants to change the hospital into something only the rich could afford.
Jack was the worst. He had everyone fooled for a while. They all thought he wanted to help people, but this (what he’s doing) wasn’t helping people. It would also be the end of Chicago Med if they become a fad and they go out of fashion. People will move on. Jack will move on. The hospital won’t if Jack gets his way. Sharon was trying to mount a resistance against Jack. She was talking with other members of the board. She managed to convince Vernon to vote in her favor and then he almost passed out in her office.
Vernon suffered a medical event. He needed treatment. Sharon brought him downstairs to the ED. Will was treating him when Vernon suffered a seizure and he had to treat that too.
He also had to find out what was causing the seizures. Will wanted Vernon to make it like everyone else. He wanted the hospital to stay a nonprofit. He actually sided against his own girlfriend because Grace thought they should turn into a for profit. Grace said that innovation was expensive. They needed the hospital to pull in more money to pay for all the tech they’ll need to bring the hospital into the future.
Grace and Will disagreed only they weren’t going to let it affect their relationship. He now makes jokes that he’s sleeping with the enemy. She jokingly calls him a bleeding heart. It didn’t matter to them that they might never agree on Jack’s plans for the hospital. Will has been at the hospital for years. Grace was specifically brought in by Jack to “innovate” everything. Most of her plans haven’t worked out. She made it accessible for the patients to see everything in their file and so that has them worrying about their health.
The information dump told the patients about what might be wrong with them. They began worrying. They wanted extra tests and medications. There’s a reason doctors don’t tell patients what’s wrong until they have a diagnosis. They don’t want to worry people over nothing. Grace was wrong with that. She was also wrong with the sound lights. She programmed the ED to start showing lights if its gets too loud. She was trying to make the ED experience like a spa and Maggie had to tell her that the lights were causing issues with the mentally ill.
None of Grace’s forward thinking has worked out. Will has seen them all fail. He still chooses to believe in her and he later asked for help with Vernon because again he wanted Vernon to make it. Vernon has a brain tumor. It wasn’t cancerous. He needed brain surgery to remove it and so his wife voted to let him go through radio treatment to shrink the tumor. She didn’t want to risk open surgery. Vernon also couldn’t choose for himself because he lost consciousness. Will got Grace to come onboard.
Grace convinced Vernon’s wife to let him have the surgery with the data she collected. The surgery was later successful. Vernon will make a full recovery. Jack can no longer push through the vote without him and so Grace found out after she saw Jack’s reaction to her success. She had always heard Will was a cowboy. It was different to seeing it in person. She wasn’t entirely sure if she liked that part of him or not. Only they got back Vernon. The vote was delayed and Sharon was still trying to talk more people into voting against Jack.
Archer’s son Sean meanwhile offered him his kidney. He had heard about his father’s kidney failure. He wanted to help and so he offered one of his kidneys. But Archer turned him down. He didn’t want to harm his son in saving his own life. He also got mad at Hannah because Hannah was the only person he told. He knew she was the one that told Sean. He got mad at her. He carried over that resentment as they were treating mother and daughter. The mother has a medical condition in which she needed stem cells from a donor.
Her teenage daughter wasn’t a match. Only Kira purposely got pregnant in the hope that her child would be a match. She unfortunately couldn’t carry the baby to term and so she needed a medical termination. And once her mother found out what she tried to do, she comforted her child by saying that she wouldn’t put her through that for the world.
Kimberly chose Kira over her own health. Archer realized he needed to tell his son that he didn’t have give up his kidney only Sean said he has to do this because he couldn’t risk losing him.
And Daniel helped a brother and sister at work. He then had dinner with Lilianna and her brother. The brother was a bit of a jerk. But he could see that Lilianna made excuses for him and he didn’t want to intervene, but he like the others all learned the hospital turned into a for profit because Vernon changed his vote. He had been impressed by the OR 2.0. He wanted to buy more of that.
THE END!
