In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Burgess slept with her ex-fiancé. She slept with Ruzek. She feels this time was different because she was working through her PTSD and that Ruzek has started attending some of her sessions with her. It also didn’t hurt that there was a lot of history with Ruzek. They’ve worked together for years.
They almost got married. Ruzek wasn’t ready for a commitment back then only things were different now. They were raising their adopted daughter together. They even lived together because they thought that would be better for their daughter, McKayla.
McKayla loves them so much that she calls them her parents. She calls them “mom” and “dad”. She was a good kid. She was a happy and well-adjusted child. They were doing great things with her.
They were always having fun or laughing together as a family. It all just fits. Everything in Burgess’s life was reminding her that she loves Ruzek and he’s never hidden that he loves her. It was a sign. Burgess finally acknowledges that sign by getting back together with Ruzek and again things were different this time.
They were both better prepared to talk through their emotions. They’ve already made a commitment to each other by raising their daughter together and quickly everything fell into place.
They were happy. They were probably the happiest they’ve ever been and the only thing getting in way was Ruzek’s cover. Ruzek was undercover with the Beck family. He was investigating them for drug dealing. He believes they have organized crime ties. He and Burgess both wanted to stop them, but Ruzek was the one undercover to get close to the family.
Ruzek has been asked to make deliveries quite sporadically. It wasn’t anything illegal. He hasn’t seen drugs or anything. There was no set schedule. It was just several forms of tests and Ruzek was passing them all. He got close to Richard Beck’s right-hand man, Dale. He was over at Dale’s house when he smelled bleach. He asked Dale about that and Dale decided to take him on a field trip to the middle of nowhere just so that Dale could burn his clothes in a trashcan. And while he was doing this, Dale was ranting about how unfair the white man has it nowadays.
Dale was a racist white guy. The clothes he burned had blood on them and so Ruzek knew he did something to somebody. He also knew the victim or victims were going to be minorities. Ruzek informed his team about what happened. They went back to that trashcan and unfortunately they didn’t get any evidence from that. They also stole Dale’s car. It was a very distinctive car. They were able to trace where it went on the night his house smelled of bleach. And it turns out that Dale was killing two Asian restauranteurs that night.
Dale wore a mask as well as gloves. He has no family and all he had was Richard Beck. Dale was a good foot soldier for him until he went off and killed those people and that drew too much attention to them. Richard later had Samantha ask Ruzek to murder Dale for them. They staged Dale’s death when really they just arrested him. They told Dale that Richard wants him dead. They told him he has nothing left and that he could flip on Richard. Only he refused to. Dale said that he was prepared to die because the war was bigger than any one “soldier”.
Dale had been injured when they arrested him. They took him to a hospital to get treated and there he decided to finish what Richard started. Dale went on to kill himself. Dale said that the plan to save the white race was too important to let one soldier bring down the cause and that’s was it for him. He died. Ruzek lost his last lead in the case. He had to continue his undercover work. He earned a place at Samantha Beck’s table. He helped out with her son and the fact that Dale was now dead had also sold Ruzek’s cover.
Ruzek approached Richard one night. He told him that he’s done a lot for him and that it was time to bring him on everything. And so Richard admitted that he was a part of a group that means to attack several cities at once and cause mass casualties.
Richard was only drug dealing because he wanted to use that money to literally fund a race war.
THE END!
