Tonight’s CSI: Vegas episode begins with a party, there is a guy upstairs and he looks drunk, he passes out on a lawn chair, then we see blood splattered on a patio door.
Joshua and Serena are on the scene, the victim’s name is Nate and his friends found him, they are all social media influencers. Nate has four deep slashes to the throat, and there is an axe nearby.
Allie is on a day off, she goes in to see if she can get any new leads. Chris is there and Max tells him that Joshua wants him to look at his case. When they arrive on the scene, they find that the killer wrote across Nate’s eyelid, @ Chris Solves, which is Chris’ handle online, he has over 100k subscribers. Chris reveals that he knows the victim.
Chris wants to run the case. Chris didn’t know Nate personally, he knew of him because he had a few million followers. Chris says that four years ago Nate was charged with killing a woman with an axe. His whole class at the academy was obsessed with the trial, it was Nate and his friend Warren that were accused.
The victim, Ana Reynolds, almost slashed her throat. They beat the murder charge. Alex made a video about the trial and it blew up. Max is not happy about the video, but Chris posted it before he was with CSI. Nate and Warren’s attorney used Chris’s theory to get them off. Chris is looking at the axe found at Nate’s crime scene, and it looks like the same in Ana Reynolds’s case. Joshua says he now has a reason to avoid social media.
Beau interrogates and takes samples of the party guests from the night of the murder.
Max and Serena try to talk to Warren and he won’t do it, he tells them he wants a lawyer.
Joshua is looking for a splatter pattern, there is no break, no void. There isn’t a single trace that the murderer was there. It’s all Nate’s blood. But, there are white crystals, that look like it is sweat, which could give them the DNA of the killer they are looking for. Allie IDs the guy on the axe, it is Warren’s sweat and the axe that killed Nate was the same one that killed Ana.
Nate was intoxicated and had GHB in his system. After many tests with the axe, it was not the murder weapon, Chris thinks Warren is being framed, again. And, Warren is taking it seriously, and his sweat on the axe didn’t have any in it, so the sweat is probably old. Max thinks the killer could be someone who follows Warren and Chris. Allie calls it troll whack a mole. Max tells Chris that he needs to start carrying a service piece around the clock, she wants him safe. Chris comes up with an idea, it could be a drone who did it. Joshua and Beau do some tests and they are able to confirm that a drone could have done it.
Joshua and Max head to Warren’s house with a search warrant. They find the drone, the propellers are broken, and there is blood on it, but the propellers are rusty. The blood is A-Positive, which is the same type as on the drone.
Warren is back at the station, Max tells him that Ana’s blood was on his drone. Warren cannot be charged with Ana’s murder because of double jeopardy.
Joshua says the killer never set foot on the balcony, so the killer wrote on Nate’s eyelid before the murder. And, since all the influencers were filming that night, maybe one of them caught something.
Serena tells Max that Chris doesn’t take precautions in the field and she is worried because he is getting death threats.
Chris remembers that there was an influencer, Vincent, who had scratched his arms. Chris gets a warrant and heads over there with Serena. Turns out Vincent has pink eye, 100% identical to the one that Nate had. Vincent did it, he wanted the truth out there about Vincent and Nate being Ana’s murderers. He tells Chris that he left a murderer walk, and he just stopped one.
Chris has decided to sign off for good and delete his account.
THE END!
