In tonight’s #DWTS episode, it was Music Video Night! It was a great theme. It forced the cast tonight to get to the heart of a music video and bring it back to life. Though the show wouldn’t be what it was without some missteps. There were some mistakes here and there. The judges were too quick to catch them.

The cast also had a hard time with tonight’s guest judge. Paula Abdul was a great singer and performer. She has amazing music videos, but she was a legendary dancer in her own right and nothing went past her. And the first to face her was Lele Pons.

Paula still had criticism. She was just kinder with her words than the other three judges. Before the night had even started, she was kind to everyone. She told them to honor their individual music videos and to also have fun. Lele was up first with Brandon. These two were given Shakira’s “Whenever, Wherever” music video. It went perfectly with their Salsa tonight. They made for a great opening number. Lele did her best to embody Shakira. The only issue she had was that she wasn’t quite as light on her feet as the judges would have liked.

Derek was the first to mention it. Paula agreed with him only she added some gentleness to the critique. Lele scored one nine from Carrie Anne and three eights from the others. She has a score of thirty-three out of forty. Next up was Ariana Madix. She and Pasha were given “I’m A Slave 4 U” by Britney Spears. Britney was another dancing legend. Ariana loves her and so she knew she couldn’t mess up tonight because she’d never live it down if she did. Ariana had the Cha Cha. And she was able to match Pasha step for step.

She never missed a beat. She was one of the best tonight to channel her original artist. It helps that she’s such a huge fan of Britney Spears’s. That helped her to have an amazing dance tonight. Paula later sang her praises. She couldn’t wait to give her a ten. The other judges loved Ariana as well. They thought it was one of her best dances. They just failed at giving her the ten she deserves and the other three settled on nines. Ariana still walked away with a score of thirty-seven out of forty. She was leading the pack tonight. It was up to the others to match her energy and try to get as good of a score as she did.

Next up was Harry Jowsey. He has struggled with dances. He wasn’t really a dancer. Its why he tends to end up in the bottom three and so he was hoping to change his fate with his Jazz number tonight. He and Rylee were given “Its Going to Be Me” by N’Sync. He got to play Justin Timberlake when everyone knows that JC carried that boy band. Harry didn’t look great in the blonde curly wig. He even started to laugh at himself during the number and that broke character. He’s gotten all the help in the world, but it doesn’t matter if he himself forgets he’s playing a part.

Nevermind the actual dancing. Harry was only now just starting to dance instead of walking around onstage and he wasn’t getting any better. He won sixes all around. He has a score of twenty-four out of forty. It was one of his worst weeks. Then along came Jason Mraz. He’s been consistently good throughout this season. He wasn’t a dancer before this and everyone is thankful that he’s a dancer now. He and Daniella were given “Take On Me” by A-Ha. It was one of the most iconic music videos ever. Jason grew up watching it.

He knew the music video like the back of his hand. He also knew how to make it a Jazz number. He and Daniella got to have fun tonight. They also went back to traditional Jazz. Carrie Anne loved to see it only she still had issues with the dance. Derek must have agreed with her because both of them lowballed the dance. They gave Jason eights. Paula gave him a ten. His first ten this season. Bruno gave him a nine. Jason was left with a score of thirty-five out of forty. It wasn’t his best score. Tonight proved he still has some work to do. And so his first ten should motivate him after this.

Allyson Hannigan was up next. She paid tribute to Christina Aguilera’s “Candyman”. She and Sasha were coming off the best week so far and that had looked like a one-off because the Quick Step tonight tripped her up. Allyson struggled with it all throughout rehearsals. She kept trying to slow things down when you couldn’t do that with a Quick Step. Sasha was amazing in the sense that he kept Allyson moving. She also gained confidence with that blonde wig. Its true that blondes have more fun.

Everyone went on to say this was the best dance for Allyson. She came alive and tonight her scores showed it. She won three eights. She also received her first nine from Paula. She has a score of thirty-three out of forty. It really was her best night. Next up was Xochitl Gomez. She’s been consistently great at everything she does and she was the only one with the experience of having directed a music video. Xochitl was gifted with a storyteller quality. She also loves Gwen Stefani and so having “Hollerback Girl” was right up her alley.

Xochitl took on a more creative lead with her partner Val. Val was able to add her direction to their Jazz number. Together they were unstoppable. There was one little mistake, but there was no need for Bruno to call attention to it. Carrie Anne had to speak up for her. Derek tried to walk a middle road and he got booed for it. Xochitl got two eights from the naysayers. She got two nines from her fans. She still has a score of thirty-four out of forty. And she received a standing ovation from the audience who all love her.

Chairty Lawson was up next. She and Artem were given Janet Jackson’s “All For You”. Only it was hard to combine Janet with Jazz. The music video was laidback while Jazz was more like a Quick Step. It couldn’t really be slowed down without showing flaws. They also added some dancers to it being just the two of them and so this dance could have gone anywhere and Charity and Artem made it amazing. It was beautiful. It was precise. They just didn’t feel she became Janet. Charity was a little too tame tonight.

Normally, the judges wouldn’t want the cast to get too lost in the character. Tonight they felt differently. Charity hadn’t been happy with her eight last week and so she was definitely unhappy with her four eights tonight. She was going to hate having thirty-two out of forty. Next up was Barry Williams. He was one of the few people that the judges said got too lost in his character and so he tried to focus on his Quick Step with Peta tonight. They were given “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John. Barry was a huge fan of Elton’s.

Barry pulled every string he could to get backstage to meet Elton once. Elton was gracious and just super nice to him. Barry never forgot it. He also found out tonight that Bruno was in that music video. He did his best to put on his best performance and sadly he was told he wasn’t getting anywhere. The judges tried to be kind about it only the four sevens spoke more volumes than they would allow themselves to say. Barry was second to last with a score of twenty-eight out of forty. And the only way to save himself was by the team dance.

One side got Backstreet Boys. The other got Gangnam Style. Both teams were scored at the end of the dance and the scores were added to their other scores. In lead was a tie between Ariana and Xochitl.

And tonight had a shocking exit with Lele being voted out with her partner Brandon. Brandon as some could tell was ticked off and he let everyone know that she deserved to stay.

THE END!
