As the kids wrestle with their past, Roarke remembers their mom, her very first guest as the host of Fantasy Island. Meanwhile, Ruby is surprised to discover how little she knows about Isla.”

Tonight’s guest was a dear friend of Elena’s. She was Joy Summers. It was her ashes that had returned to the island. Joy and Elena met and became friends when Joy visited the island years ago. She was actually the first guest that Elena ever welcomed. Elena had been nervous at the time.
She was constantly tripping over herself trying to figure out what she could do to make Joy’s stay memorable and Joy just put her at ease. Joy knew what she wanted from the very beginning. Joy wanted to find her own inner joy. She had planned on becoming a successful businesswoman and her plans got derailed by a guy she met at business school who had a killer smile.
They got married. They had three kids together when the guy was up and left her when her youngest was still a toddler. Joy then had to take sole responsibility for the kids. She put them first. She derailed her own dreams. She even lost herself in all the chaos and she came to the island because she wanted to find herself again.
The island helped Joy remember that she could be a successful woman in the business world. She ended up leaving the island and started a multi-million dollar company from scratch. Joy found her purpose again and along the way she lost her family.
Joy had always put her kids first. But without her looking over them, they began to fracture. They spent so much time arguing that Joy’s final wish was for them to spread her ashes together on the island. Joy sadly passed away much too young. Elena was mourning her. Her kids do not do much.
The three kids were all grown up. Ross, Frank, and Bridget were told that unless they spread their mother’s ashes with mutual respect and love for each other the urn would never open. Joy was more than a guest to Elena. And so Elena wasn’t allowing those kids to leave the island until Joy’s final fantasy was fulfilled.
Elena offered Joy’s children all the amenities that the island had to offer. They chose to ignore that and try to sneak off the island. They stole Javier’s plane. They were flying away when they had maintenance issues. It forced them to land back on the island and they were arguing about whose bright idea that was.
They also argued about other things. Frank resented that his siblings left him to take care of mom while they did nothing to help. They were too busy or they were running a cryptocurrency company. They didn’t take the time to be with Joy before her death and now they were arguing about everything.
Frank and Bridget resented that Ross always put himself in charge of them. Ross was the oldest and he used that as an excuse to act like he knew better than them. He also called Bridget “Nicky” which was actually spelled N-C-E. It stood for “Not Cute Enough”. Ross used to tell Bridget that she wasn’t cute enough. She gained a complex. She started acting out. She even disappeared for two years because she joined a commune. Only it wasn’t just Ross being a jerk. Frank was also a jerk to Bridget. He blamed her for their dad walking out.
They both blamed her for their dad leaving. They said that their parents tried for a third kid to save their marriage and that Bridget failed at the job. Another thing she hated to hear. The two were yelling at Ross for being bossy and so he finally said he quit his job of being in charge. It was now up to them to finally figure things on their own. Which was a problem because they got punished for stealing the plane. They were put in timeout. They got to go back to the basement where they grew up and it brought back memories.
It also didn’t have a door. They couldn’t escape in spite very much wanting to. They were just stuck there and so they watched a tape that their mother made for them before she died. Joy had loved her children so much that she knew she had to make a tape in one final effort to bring them together. It just wasn’t enough. They were back to arguing mere moments after watching the tape and that’s when Elena decided to up the ante. She made the floor to the basement lava. It was like the game they used to play as kids. They couldn’t touch the floor as they navigated around the lava and it forced them to work together.
Once they started listening to each other, a door appeared. They got to leave the basement and go back to the beach. But then they started to argue again. Frank had accidentally confessed to leaving mom on the day she died. He said he had to run out for something and he returned to find their mother dead. The other two got mad at him. Frank finally snapped. He punched Ross. He said he’s been lifting weights for years preparing for the day he finally got to beat up his older brother. He and Ross got into a fight. And after they had beaten each other up, Bridget stormed off.
She said she wanted to get away from them only they didn’t want to be alone in misery. They put aside their fight and they went after their sister. They finally apologized to her for blaming her for their dad leaving. They were so upset that they couldn’t take the blame out on the person responsible and she made for an easy scapegoat. Nevertheless, Bridget accepted their apology. She also told Ross that they understood he was just trying to fill a hole in their lives after their dad left. And that’s why he was always so bossy.
The siblings finally talked through the problems. They were even smiling when they came across a beautiful scene in the forest and the plants and they didn’t know that several years in the past – Joy was taking a glimpse at them being so happy. It was seeing that her kids turned out alright that finally gave Joy the spark to pursue her own dream. And that’s when she built her company.
Joy found her dream. She also gave Elena the chance to realize that she truly could do this and so that’s why Elena had been so hard on Joy’s kids.
But once they remembered they loved each other, they were given the urn. They were finally able to open it and to spread their mother’s ashes in a beautiful.
Just like she wanted.
