In tonight’s Fantasy Island episode, Elena dumped Javier. She dumped him because of his daughter. Helene resented having Elena as part of their lives. She had just lost her mother and she wasn’t looking for a replacement right now. She told Elena as much when Elena got stuck in a time loop, but knowing she has to walk away from the love of her life wasn’t easy to live with. Elena misses Javier. She wants to be with him. She wants to apologize for hurting him. She just couldn’t risk getting back together with him. Not when his daughter was in such a vulnerable state. And needed him to herself right now.

Elena has taken to giving Javier some space. They only see each other when he was dropping off new people on the island. His plane had gotten fixed and normally they would have joked about that together, but not tonight. That simply wasn’t the case tonight. Javier instead was cold and Elena couldn’t even look him in the face. She too chose to focus on the clients. There was a family visiting the island. The Grahams. The Grahams seemed like the perfect family on Instagram and they weren’t that in real life.

The husband is named Dan. He too likes to throw himself into work. Their teenage daughter Ryleigh hated her body and being put on display. Their teenage son Trevor rarely looks up from his video games. The only one who was seeking the life they had in pictures was the mom/wife named Amber. Amber came to the island because her fantasy was to have the happy family that they had in pictures. Amber grew up with parents that were always breaking up and getting back together. It left her with an unstable childhood because she never knew what to expect from her parents.

Amber naturally grew up wanting something different with her own family. She wanted to give them the perfect life. She wanted them to know only joy and she felt like a failure when she could see for herself that they weren’t happy. So, Amber wanted the photo perfect life. The island granted her that. It also came at a cost. Her family suddenly became happy and they couldn’t wait to do family events together. They went snorkeling. They played football on the beach. They didn’t even seem to need sleep or feel pain. They were perfect.

But they weren’t Amber’s family. Amber had two days of the perfect picture life when suddenly she grew concerned for her kids because she realized something was wrong. Her kids weren’t acting like themselves. Her husband had stopped telling dad jokes. Amber tried to love the new them. She tried to be happy with her family and all the while she knew something was off. It was like when she saw her daughter in the mirror. Her perfect picture daughter stepped in front of the mirror with her mother. And suddenly Amber saw her real daughter in the mirror begging for help.

The perfect daughter stepped away from the mirror. Amber stopped seeing her child call for help and she tried to convince herself that she was only hallucinating. It wasn’t until the same thing happened with her husband that she realized the picture perfect family wasn’t her actual family. Her real family was trapped. Amber finally saw that for herself and she went running to Elena to fix it. She demanded to know where her real family was. She wanted them back and so Elena had to remind her that her real family didn’t match her fantasy.

Amber had wanted the picture perfect life. She got just that. Only now she doesn’t like it. Elena told her that the only way to get her family back was for her to confront herself and to truly get to the bottom of why she needs everything to be picture perfect. Amber did just that. She returned to her hotel room. She ignored the people pretending to be her family and she confronted her reflection. She got sucked into the mirror dimension. She found her real family. She also found things from her childhood there.

Amber hadn’t told Elena the full truth about her parents. Her parents weren’t just emotionally volatile. They were downright neglectful. They threw money at everything but Amber. She grew up in poverty. She basically lived out of a bookbag. She found a tennis racket one day in the trash as a kid. She begged her parents to give her tennis lessons because she hoped to one day make the team and she only wanted that because she wanted to feel like she belonged somewhere. And her parents couldn’t even give her that.

Its why Amber was constantly trying to push her daughter into tennis. She wanted to give her kids all the things she never had and they didn’t know how important it was to her because they never knew about her childhood. Amber hadn’t told them. She eventually brought herself to tell them when they were trapped in the mirror dimension together, but that wasn’t enough to help them escape. She truly had to confront the darkest part of her fantasy. And that’s the fact she hadn’t truly seen her family until they were trapped in a room together.

Amber has always sought out perfection. It sometimes made her family feel like they weren’t enough and so she finally apologized for that. She finally realized that her daughter wasn’t always going to love what she loves. That’s okay. Ryleigh was perfect just the way she is. Her son may need to occasionally distance himself from his family, but he was going through his teenage years and he was trying to get through them as best as possible. And her husband has been trying to give her the perfect life because he does love her and he loves their kids even if he doesn’t always show it.

After Amber saw her family as they were, they were freed from the mirror dimension. They were freed and they couldn’t wait to get off the island. Joining them was the fifth person who traveled on the same flight. Isiah Hughes traveled to the island because his fantasy was to find out the date of his death. He had a dad that died unexpectedly of an aneurysm. And so he was afraid of truly living his life because he didn’t want to leave anyone behind that would miss him.

It had taken Helene talking about her own mother for Isiah to realize that it was okay to take a risk on love. He chose to leave the island without ever learning of the date and he was happy with that decision.

And Ruby told Elena she was there whenever Elena was ready to tell her why she broke up with Javier.

THE END!
